I'm Gonna Be a Prison Guard

If I didn't have a misd DV, I would have done something like what you're doing. It's a shame what taking keys does to a mans job opportunities as it applies to jobs where the ability to rip shit out of peoples hands is very important.

I was just recruited from a contractor company that works with the prison systems. I think they saw I was in the Army and an O.E.F. veteran on my resume that I have posted on my states job boards.

The Job is called food service supervisor. The job is basically to make sure the prisoners are doing their job right and to keep tabs on the inventory. There is no manual labor or cooking on my end. That's the prisoners job.

I had a telephone interview today and will have a face to face interview on Friday. I'm looking to get out of swinging a hammer for a living, so I'm going to give this a shot.

It's a State Max prison, but I'm honestly more worried about the staff being dickheads than I am about the prisoners. The kitchen is one of the better jobs in a prison, so I'm not expecting it to be too gnarly.

didnt know they let manlets do that job

figured they would only hire people of normal height (6'8 or more)

do you get a gun? a real gun? i still to this day i am amazed how prison guards do not carry lethal weapons, i understand that its for security purposes but cmon you are in there outnumered with rapists and murderers with a fucking pepper spray

That's exactly why they don't carry firearms except for guards in the towers or on CERT (or equivalent) teams. Would be way more dangerous if an inmate got their hands on a guard's gun. They have coverage without every guard carrying. It's much safer that way.

Congrats.

I have been watching OZ a lot lately. I just saw the episode with Beecher taking a dump on Schillinger's face.

Good luck boss.

Is the CERT teams like the swat team for the prison?

I just saw the episode of Oz when Said, and company take over the whole emerald city taking a few guards hostages. Glynn responds by bringing some heavily armoured guys with M16s, ad they start shooting

ARe they a separate unit from Prison guards? Or are they pulled from prison guards?

So I got hired to be a prison guard.
It sounds pretty intense, I have to move across the country but will more than double my salary.
First I have to graduate training, which takes 3 months.
So what should I expect? I know a bunch of you doggers have been in the slammer.
Don't throw shit at me.

I thought you wanted to be a copper, and arent you Canadien?

I could be wrong, but I believe that OP is Canadian. I didn't realize they had prisons up there to be honest.

Yeh, I thought they just let you stand outside, and then you freeze into popsicle. When sentence is up, they thaw you out.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you acquire this job? Do you have a bachelor's in a related field?

EDIT: I was unaware you are Canadian. Still, pretty impressive to get hired on in the federal system without experience in the field.
i do have a degree in criminology. So im glad i got a position in my field of study.

CERT is Correctional Emergency Response Team and yeah it's kind of like their SWAT. It's usually a competitive application process filled from the ranks of regular guards.

Good luck man, this is a good step toward getting what might be your dream job.

If you get to be CERT, do you still have to do normal prison guard shifts and deal with the prisoners on day to day basis?
