...as to why some believed JDS would be able to defeat elite strikers like Hunt or Overeem. Cheick Kongo, who once had totally dominated Cain in the standup, EASILY lost to the Samoan without posing a single threat from striking. A former K-1 champ made an experienced kickboxer look irrelevant. I imagine Overeem is around Hunt's level (and this isn't pre-07 Reem).

....so how does beating a bunch of guys lacking serious striking backgrounds, with the exception of an aged, battle-worn Crocop, legitimize JDS' standing as an elite striker.

DON'T GET ME WRONG....

I am not hating on JDS. He's an admirable character, and is a true force in UFC. He deserves to be fighting in the upper category of his division. However, I feel that many fans were a little overhyped about JDS' overall striking capability.

Look at the big picture kids. There is more to striking than UFC. Beating up wrestlers that can kick and punch doesn't make you a world class striker.

Hopefully Joe Rogan will also be a little more careful about who he calls a world class striker. :)

If we're lucky, JDS will improve and put up a better fight next time.

yeah a kickboxing fan shitting on mma striking. Well this is a new one.

Weird how mma fans aren't big enough idiots to go shit on Ghita's grappling when he wins a fight.

if you actually watch fights and watch the technique jds employs, youll see his boxing always was nasty

JDS would still KO Hunt, or OVereem or Kongo.......and so would Cain.

Big ass dudes, small ass gloves.

You know the rest...

Nah, it's just proving that a lot of JDS fans were delusional about just how good of a striker he was. Here's an example of typical "JDS is the best striker" mentality:

- "he can knockout K-1 fighters bro. small gloves bro. takedowns bro. mma striking bro"

- "JDS is an elite striker because he knocks out most of his opponents in UFC. therefore he will knockout experienced and successful strikers as well.... just because."

- "Reem got KO'd twice by Shogun years ago, which is still relevant today somehow, and means JDS would own him too"

Reality hurts.

Yea but Cain completely demolished Kongo tho

With grappling, yes. He got tooled whenever they engaged in striking bouts. Quite badly, actually.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, the fact still remains Cain completely dominated that fight.

Yep. A wrestler just outstruck JDS tonight. His striking was overrated.

Overeem would have a field day with JDS.

TS you're being an elitist fan. It's easy to say these things after a fight is over. Cain would have beaten Overeem both on the feet and on the ground. Dos Santos would beat Overeem as well. Cain and Dos Santos are the best heavyweights in MMA.

Overeem and Hunt could be discredited as well. Think about what you're saying.

YES!!! At last - common sense!

And another lack thereof. :(

jds prooved already many times hes legit
gonzaga, yvel etc.

i am pretty sure american football is more involved than MMA

if someone who played 1 position in footballl let alone someone who never played football at a high level quarterback or middle linebacker can get it i am pretty sure a hardcore MMA fan can get MMA
