This makes complete sense. Armen doesn’t deserve a title shot after not fighting for 1.5 years — and also because of blowing his chance by pulling out on fight day against Islame. He clearly needs a proper build-up fight, and the matchup against Hooker is fair.

You know what I think Paddy could suprise some people. Im not saying he'll win, most likely wont but hear me out. Paddy is a lot better than most people give him credit for.

People will talk about the losing streaks his opponents have been on and thats fair enough but he can only beat whos put in front of him and hes done it convincingly, he beat Chandler the fuck up and made it look easier than Charles did a few months before. Hes on a 7 fight UFC win streak with 5 finishes.

Hes a huge LW the size difference fight night between them would be startling. Hes improved drastically each fight in the UFC, his physique fight night his last few fights has been thick, solid, tight.

Most People honestly still dont realise how much of a beast Paddy is on the ground, hes very very good, both control and submissions wise, hes a 2nd degree black belt. His control and GNP is fantastic when he gets in a dominant posistion, if he takes your back youre in big trouble.

Striking wise id say hes got better, his stand up certainly isnt elite or pretty to look at but he uses his length well, uses a lot of teeps and calf kicks at distance, knees, elbows its quite an awkward style and maybe could take Topuria a while to work out. Hes not going to just stand in the pocket and box.

Chin Wise, granite, he took a huge shot from Chandler and barely moved. Obviously Topurias power is another level but hes far from glass jawed.

I would still fancy Topuria to win by KO but I truly believe this could turn into a great scrap.

Not to mention the build up, these 2 genuinely dislike eachother and Paddy certainly Isn't shy on the mic. Anyone that would rather see Topuria vs Mr entitled Gaethje over this is insane.

100% my take. Paddy's calf kicks are nasty and so is his top game. Ilia doesnt check kicks whatsoever and it would be interesting if Psddy could achieve a dominant position on the ground. Buildup of course will be fantastic. Much better than another Garthje title shot

Good. Paddy was the only LW that was talked about in a match up with Topuria, that was talking about getting another fight in. Olivera was cool with being on a 1 fight win streak for his title shot. Justin and Arman were both saying they did enough and would wait for their free title shot. Then Paddy is the only one that has never been given a title shot, I'm a huge fan of seeing new faces give it a go. Arman never fought for one, I get it, I'm just salty over Islam/Moicano last minute and blame him enough where he lost it.

Paddy is durable, huge LW. Well rounded. Comes in with a good gameplan usually. It'll be fun to see the trash talk leading up and the fight is probably going to be competitive. Arman will get another title shot soon enough and Hooker isn't a tough matchup for him, so he'll probably be next. Topuria isn't unbeatable, especially at LW or higher. His frame is smaller so he has to take more risks the bigger the opponent is.

Anyways glad UFC isn't rewarding fighters sitting around. Probably isn't the end of the BS titleshots, but it's a start.

Conor had faced much, much better competition before getting a fight with Aldo than Paddy has faced to date. Ilia is at least three or four steps up for Paddy, who struggled against Jared Gordon and Jordan Leavitt in his most recent fights against the living.

Come on, you know better than that. To say Paddy struggled vs those guys is the equal of staying Ilia struggled with Herbert and Mitchell, fights were the same year.

Fighters get better, especially when they start facing top 10. Both guys has improved heavily and look better vs better competition.

I love this fight and I think it's the right call. Paddy is on a big streak and the best option. Gaethje, although a fun fight, is on a one fight win streak over a guy he beat who was on a 2 fight skid. Arman is the rightful contender, but he's on a time out for pulling out and he'll get his shot next.

It's gonna be a fun fight. But I think it only gets interesting if Paddy can clinch up and force takedowns. Otherwise, if Ilia can stay at his range and keep the fight standing, it's basically batting practice till a home run is hit.

With that said....Let's go Blue Jays, let's go!
