If you're Anthony Smith what is your gameplan?

I only see one path to victory for Smith and it is so narrow it might as well not exist. He obviously wants to avoid grappling even if he had success against a tired Ozedemir. He needs an early finish. Within the first two or three rounds.

My strategy would likely be one that is reliant on inward and outward movements and attacks. Try to create momentary clashes where Jones' reach isn't as much of a factor.

As far as actually winning he just needs to clip him once to try him rocked and then whatever he does don't let him off the hook. Make the most of any vulnerable moments for Jones because they will be few and far between.

I hope Smith wins but I give him about an 8% chance at most.

agreed. he has many layers, and his weakest layer is the boxing range.
the way to get through the layers is with pressure. He should ignore the threat of Jones boxing range imo, otherwise the fear of Jones non existent boxing skills will just force smith to stay within kicking range where he has zero chance.
Jones footwork has gotten better yes. his punches are still meh.
I believe smith would win a boxing match against Jones to be honest.

Alexander Gustafsson is a professional boxer and he tried to step into the boxing range but Jon Jones is just too good at controlling the range, the distance and the pace. We saw what happened to Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier who tried to step into the boxing range. They got picked apart and destroyed. Jon Jones fighting IQ is off the charts.

Many fighters tried bull charging against Jon Jones but failed miserably. Let's not forget how tough his chin is. Many fighters had great shots but he was never rocked when usually 99% of the fighters would be sleeping if they were hit with the same shot Jon Jones took.

dont get low kicked

dont try outgrapple him like rumble did vs dc 2.

Bull rushing Jon Jones sounds like a good idea to me coach.

Go for broke straight outta the gate. No other way.

Thats why the Rumble fight was so intriguing. It was either Rumble KO early or Jones subbing him shortly after the flurry.

And Rumble was MUCH better than Smith

Gus just stepped in to land one or 2 then step back out. he never tried to maintain boxing range.
Thats the key here... to maintain the boxing range after stepping in and follow jones when he steps back. most MMA fighters arent able to punch going backwards with some exceptions like Conor.

This. Chael exposed Jon but no one has followed the blueprint he laid out for beating Jones.

Chael in his losses shows fighters exactly how to beat his opponent. He is truly a once in a lifetime athlete.

If he somehow beats jones, the PED justifications will be out of this world.

Roids in bulk.

Plus eye pokes, head butts and maybe an atomic drop, Hunto style.

Head butt Jones early in the fight.

With a head this big, I'm sure it'll do some serious damage

Headbutt his fingers when he goes for an eye poke

Watching his last fight seems like it will be another DC-Lewis.

Jon Jones boxing is improving very fast. His footwork is improving. He got his punching power back that he forget for years. Jon Jones is stepping into his prime and his weak spots are getting smaller and smaller.

Jon Jones clinch and ground game is superior. His stand up is great and the only way to beat him is to step into his range but the problem is Jon Jones is the master at controlling the range and distance. It's like his weakness has layers of shield that you have to break through.

You realize Jones is getting destroyed by Johnny Walker right? Sure he beat Gus the second time. Yet Gus is not athletic at all.. and Hes very timid... Johnny Walker is way to tall, and explosive and athletic. He has that big dick energy Jon's never faced before.

Jon's resume consists of short, older, MW's mostly.

Well seeming as you get a minimum of 2-3 free fouls a fight, why not start with a cheeky shot to the balls?

He could then follow up with a poke to the eye which could be seen as "accidental", from there he can hopefully go to work.

I think the only way Smith beats Jones is if he bull rushes him and throws his best in Round 1. We've seen Jones struggle under early pressure before in vs Gustafson 1 where Gus busted him open and easily won the first round and could have potentially finished the fight if he was more aggressive in his striking. Jones also may have a suspect chin (avoiding HW) and he hasn't really been hit hard. Smith has the size, length and reach to do this. The only way he can win is by first round K.O. He can't be tactical, timid or try to outsmart Jones over the course of 5 rounds, no one can. His only shot is by a recklessly stupid flurry of hard punches that finish him or seriously hurt him.

Be aggressive and get in tight. Don't let Jones get comfortable with his range

Big dick energy? Do you have to turn every thread gay?

Same as he's been doing, bit of the old ultraviolence and put it on him quickly. If he decides to play the long game, he's toast.
