If you're Anthony Smith what is your gameplan?

Don’t just stand 3-4 ft away, right in front of Jones. Like most of his opponents have.

Circle away constantly and look for that one big opportunity to land.

Be careful moving forward because Jones often gets a TD with guys who are rushing in.
Avoid the clinch; Jones is too strong here and he will tire you out very quickly.

But most important: DO NOT JUST STAND IN ONE PLACE IN FRONT OF HIM.

I think the only way Smith beats Jones is if he bull rushes him and throws his best in Round 1. We've seen Jones struggle under early pressure before in vs Gustafson 1 where Gus busted him open and easily won the first round and could have potentially finished the fight if he was more aggressive in his striking. Jones also may have a suspect chin (avoiding HW) and he hasn't really been hit hard. Smith has the size, length and reach to do this. The only way he can win is by first round K.O. He can't be tactical, timid or try to outsmart Jones over the course of 5 rounds, no one can. His only shot is by a recklessly stupid flurry of hard punches that finish him or seriously hurt him.

Jones may have a suspect chin in the same way that I may be Santa Claus. We’ve never seen any proof that I’m Santa Claus, but that doesn’t prove that I’m not. Also, 90% of fighters stick with one division, which I suppose you could describe as “avoiding” some other division.

You’re right about the strategy though. Do what Henry did against TJ. Don’t stand there and watch the show. Try to smash.

Run towards Jones and unleash the flying knee of victory. That's what I would do if I was Terry Patrick, or whatever Jon's opponent's name is in UFC 235.
