Tom didn't even come close to putting in serious effort on the takedown attempt (this is just plain fact, not a matter of opinion), and he pretty clearly was conserving energy in the first round (fact), as though he realized that Gane probably had good enough striking defense to make it out of the first so planned to fight multiple rounds and consult his corner between rounds before emptying the tank (educated guesswork/opinion about why Aspinall wasn't emptying his tank early).

Pretty much this. A lot of comments giving the impression that Gane was destroying Tom but that was not the case at all.
Tom was moving fowards, not afraid at all to engage and the fight was pretty much even until the last minute when Gane landed the jab that bloodied Tom's nose and a couple more. And that was it.
