If Max finishes Frankie......

Do you think GSP will fight at WW again? Do you think Jones will fight at LHW again? I have my doubts.

I think the possibility of Max fighting Conor at 155 is out there which would tie up a lot of loose ends. Personally, it is the fight I look forward to most.

I would love to see Max go up and face Connor... Would be a super fun fight.

I think Tony v Connor is a bloodbath.

Connor vs KhiBiber is prolly a one sided beat down with Connor being used as a paint brush to make the canvass red.

But the whole "lineal" FW, Connor thing... I really think the door should be closed on it.

He competed in a combat sport within a year. Last i checked. I could be mistaken, but that could also be the Prairie Vodka getting to me.

As far as lineal champs, McGregor is the current FW lineal champion. Via tradition he would lose that status within the next 6 months.

There's no reason to beat around the bush. Conor isn't active in MMA anymore, and there's no reason to intimate that since he competed in boxing, that that some how caries weight in MMA.

His boxing fight is moot in the context of MMA.

That doesn't even matter though because you're not wrong: Conor is the lineal FW champ. Although, it's easy to stay the lineal FW Champ when you don't give other contenders the chance to take it.

Your insinuation is that Max has improved to become the greatest ever whilst since that fight, McGregor has done basically nothing to improve his craft. I rate UFC experience over MMA experience, within the modern era. That is is just myself however, we can have a broader debate on that issue.

Surely, you understand the hypocrisy of assuming McGregor hasn't improved as much, more, or even slightly less to be on a plane less than Holloway where he dominated him in every aspect.

I'm not saying Holloway is the greatest ever. I'm telling you I think he's better than Conor McGregor.

I'm telling you, I think that is wrong. They fought, Max lost convincingly.

Both have improved since. Doesn't change my opinion.

Why is this GOAT crap so important man I just don't get it, Max is the Champion that is it and any talk about that silly nonsense is popularity driven to start with. Dan Henderson is a GOAT if you want to label somebody and their can only be one. It's like their is goddamn rules in this Goat discussion now. Dan fought at 3 or 4 different weight classes and fought any and everybody. That belt does not make you the toughest. Skill wise since their can only be one Goat Mighty mouse would be the best ever to put all his skills together and transition through them fluidly. The way this forum labels Goats it's like when they cross paths and say "what up goat", " hey goat what is happening"? Awwww me and another goat is going to train lol

TS just answered himself.
Federer is GOAT, despite his record against Nadal.

We need to stop calling people GOAT right after they defend their belts for the first time - no matter how good Max is.

Longevity in MMA is so hard, that it's common to see champions going on a losing skid after being dethroned. That's why guys like Fedor, Silva, Aldo and GSP are all time greats.

Conor fans are a bane to this board. I mean, this thread is a great example. This is a thread about Max Holloway fighting Frankie Edgar but Conor is always brought into it even though he doesn't even fight at 145.

That's fine though, we don't have to agree. At least we both enjoy the sport.

There are no rules, its just I don't think most people would agree with you. Fedor, GSP, Anderson, Bones, and MM are almost universally recognized as the 5 greatest to ever do it.

Ad hominem attacks aside, glad we can agree on this. It is debatable. I would hope we both enjoy the sport.

I won't find a reason to attack your character like you did to me. My arguments stand on their merits. Not personal attacks.

I didn't think I was attacking you. Not all Conor fans are asses, just like not all GSP or Fedor fans are asses. I'm just saying its actually great that we disagree. Think if we all agreed on these fights. The sport and this board would be boring as fuck. Sports work, all of them, because fans disagree.

Which is a big if, do you think he overtakes Aldo as the GOAT FW?

Although Aldo does have more title defences, Max has beat him decisively twice in a row and Aldo is still in his prime evidenced by his UFC 200 performance against Frankie. Plus Frankie has never finished which would be a big deal for Max's legacy.

It's a similar situation to another sport tennis where although Federer has more Grand Slams than Nadal, Nadal has a lopsided head to head record against him even though a majority of those matches were in clay.

If not, what do you think Max has to do to overtake Aldo as the GOAT FW?

I don't think Aldo is in his prime...go back a few years, back when he was in the wec. or his early title defenses in the ufc...different fighter...he hardly ever got hit...his leg kicks were brutal...and he didn't gas nearly as fast...that could be cause of usada...who knows..

No he needs to have the length of stay. But keep winning and he’s in contention.

Its a complex issue with Holloway because he has already won 12 consecutive. Consider this. The longest win streak in UFC history is 16 fights by Anderson Silva. Suppose Max wins his next 4 or 5 fights and breaks that record. How would you feel about it then? If Max wins his next 5 fights he will only have 6 defenses, but will hold the longest win streak in UFC history. It would be hard to argue he isn't the greatest 145'er ever at that point.

Lol, no.

I don't understand why you guys care about goat talk? It will always be opinion and people will never agree on any one fighter.

"Greatest of all time" for finishing a guy on the third title defense?

and the guy you are talking about replacing was there defending for 10 years?

Sure,, why not,, everything else is screwed up

3 title defenses, beat 2x the FW GOAT, and before that he went on a 11 fights win streak beating everyone in the division.

To me right now Aldo is still the FW GOAT, but let's not forget he had so much title defense because of the fact that he was promoted champion when the FW division was created.

WEC was the UFC FW division.

Imo, it's fair to considering that WEC FW division was the premier league while there wasn't a UFC FW div - so actually, for me it would be fair to consider his WEC title defenses too, and his streak on this promotion + UFC was of 15 wins.

Max doesn't need to beat his streak or title defenses to be GOAT - he just needs some time as a champion. Even Max recognizes that.
