If Charles beats Islam, is he the new LW Goat?

You can't lose to someone in a blowout and then get revenge in a rematch and be called a goat. They would still be 1-1. Which is why I hope Olivera loses so we don't get stuck in rematch hell at LW.

man, Charles is great. dont get me wrong, at all.
I truly rooted for him against Islam and I will do it again now.
I am just not emotional about it. IMHO, too early to call him GOAT.
I already gave him the title of THE most entertaining fighter ever at LW. And thats a lot.
I’m not saying he’s GOAT now but if he continues winning then his early loses shouldn’t go against him being GOAT

It is kinda funny looking over the current champions and none of them are the divisional GOATs.

To be fair though, that's also because Nunes just retired and Val just lost to Grasso.
True. But I can't figure out why every single time a new champ is crowned, it's all of a sudden "he/she is the GOAT" as if the other GOAT candidates weren't on top for years like Aldo, Cruz, Andy, Fedor etc...
***EDIT ***
In b4 people bombard me with "lol wtf Fedor on top he's overrated blah blah"

Thank you for correcting yourself that only 4 of Charles losses count towards his LW GOAT potential as the rest weren't LW fights.

Now if only you could also acknowledge that Khabib only has 16 LW wins, not 29.

All by extreme domination bar tibau which he should have lost, but again wasn't hurt

Your crusade to hate khabib is rather odd, considering how he handled conor. If I was a mcgregor fan I'd be hyping khabib as king kong, considering he did win a round, but realistically never hurt khabib in the slightest or ever was really in control

It's just daft to play down khabib. I only play down conor as trolling, at least prime conor. I always respect that win and imo because of what was on the line, it was khabibs biggest win and imo the second or 3rd best fighter he fought

Errr yeah Khabib brutalised and finished them first lol
Probably the most ridiculous post I will read today. Just using their UFC resumes..

Khabib beating Conor means shit. Because Nate did it first, and quicker.

Gaethje.. Eddie Alvarez beat him by KO before Khabib subbed him.

Dustin.. Korean Zombie choked him unconscious long before Khabib beat him.

Lowbrow comment of the day. It’s early but I don’t think anything will surpass this comment. Well.. unless you post again.

The only question I have is what was your point? Do you even know? In typical SD fashion. You clearly did not think your comment through to it’s logical conclusion.

Khabib beat them first..

His record is 34-9. How is that “much better” than Khabib’s 29-0? If a fighter wins, he’s the GOAT but if he loses it doesn’t count? Or does it only work with fighters you like?
The UFC is full of fighters that totally suck that don't have 9 losses. If a fighter loses early in his career, gets much better, and becomes GOAT-level with the wins he gained later, then yes, he can be the GOAT over an undefeated fighter that retired early and has lower-level wins.

Anderson lost to small Japanese men in Pride, but only a fool would say that diminishes his status given he wasn't nearly the fighter he would become.

Undefeated records aren't terribly impressive when you haven't faced someone who matches your skillset well. Clinging to that record only takes you so far if someone else has more impressive wins.

Speaking of records, let's not forget who has the most submissions and most finishes in UFC history, and hint: it isn't Khabib or Islam.

Charles: 22 UFC wins. Notable: Dariush, Garthje, Poirier, Chandler, Ferguson, Lee, Miller, Guida, Stephens

Khabib: 13 UFC wins. Notable: Garthje, Poirier, McGregor, Barboza, MJ, RDA

His record at lightweight is like 15 and 4, with two losses when he was like 21. Khabib is 13 and 0 at ufc lightweight

I have Olives at 14-5-1 at UFC LW, for the record.

14 Wins
Escudero
Brooks
Guida
Giagos
Miller
Teymur
Lentz
Gordon
Lee
Ferguson
Chandler
Poirier
Gaethje
Dariush

5 Losses
Miller
Cerrone
Lamas
Felder
Islam

1 NC
Lentz

I look at Charles like Overeem. Exciting fighter that could beat any ranked opponent on a given night, but could also lose.

Dominance and losses weigh heavily in my criteria so I can’t put Charles as the goat

No but he does cement his spot as the second-best. I think the more interesting question is what does a second win over Charles do for Islam? He would have in my opinion the best win streak of Charles n Khabib and still I feel somewhat hesitant to put him over Charles in the GOAT LW rankings.

Honestly, forget the Khabib discussion.

I'll take Islam > Olives as well in the GOAT discussion.

A win over Islam would really put separation between these for Charles.

Exactly. Thats why i say is too soon to talk about goat. He needs to earn that. Beating islam will be a good step in this direction

Well what matters first and foremost is that he's not going to beat Islam

I always love the "Not going to"

Haven't you learned you lesson in this sport?? Nothing is certain in any fight. This happens to be a competitive one with two very high level guys. They can beat each other on any night.
