If Alvarez defeats Henderson, Bellator has #1 lightweight?

Alvarez isn't going to be fighting in the Ufc for at least a year.

not how rankings work, besides, everyone knows as soon as you sign a UFC contract you get superpowers and instantly become a better fighter. see: ben henderson. no way chandler would beat UFC eddie.

That's completely false  at least tell people the truth. Its when you sign a ZUFFA contract you are a top level fighter.

See Rousey, Ronda and Dana's obsession for her before even formally joining the UFC.

Now I can tell you that Eddie today cannot compete at the top level, one court ruling and he's either completely overrated and would have been crushed or he's a top five guy that's been killing (somehow simultaneously top level competition and cans) the minor leagues for years.

You are all wrong. BJ Penn is #1.

That is the correct answer.

Im guessing most rankings would probably either just ignore the fact that Chandler beat Alvarez and rank Alverez at #1 if he beats the current #1 in Bendo after already beating a "top 10" Aoki and a maybe top 30 Pitbull

Or Melendez get the #1 spot

But, i doubt Alverez gets past Bendo

MMAth

We've seen it all before, over and over and over.

wait but that means Pettis is allready the #1 LW cause he beat Henderson but he lost to Guida and Guida lost to Henderson who lost to Pettis who lost to Guida who lost to Henderson who lost to Pettis who lost to Guida who lost to Henderson who lost to Pettis who lost to Guida who . . . . . ERROR 404 MMATH

Bottom line chandler would have to prove himself beyond beating one top ten guy - even if alverez becomes #1 two years after the loss he doesn't bring chandler around with him on The rankings.

Whether or not Chandler would be number 1 on most lists, he'd have a legit claim to it, which would be a huge W for Bellator. It would be a big gamble for the UFC to actually give Alvarez the immediate title shot. I don't know why they'd do it.

Dana said he would not get an immediate title shot...

There is no such thing as a number one LW. Hw.ww. whatever. There is a such thing as a champion for a weight class withing that organization. But this p4p and number one fighter at any given weight class is a ignorant way to rank fighters. Its fantasy like fantasy football. Let me explain.

Alvarez beats bendo right. How the hell can u say chandler is better than bendo without having them two fight. Let's say bendo and chandler fight and bendo smashes on chandler. Its becomes a strange love triangle right? Well guess what. That happens all the time in MMA. The only way u can say that chandler is number one is if he gets his ass into UFC and gets a championship. Then he would be number one LW in ufc and a better fighter than anyone he's ever beat....and that's it. You can speculate who he would or could beat but until those guys fight u will never know.

P4p rankings and #1 weight class rankings overall fighters in that weight class in every organization is a complete joke. It will never be accurate and its only a talked about subject in MMA internet forums because dorks can't get enough and aren't satisfied watching a fight and just shutting the hell up and waiting for the next one.....noooo they have to argue fuss and speculate on the next fight and criticize every aspect of a fighter from his physique to his personal life. Shut up and watch the fight and just wait to see what happens next u lame ass fanboys.

If Alvarez beats Henderson, Alvarez would be ranked as the top LW. If you beat the best, you become the best.

However, I think Chandler is very underrated like some other Bellator fighters (Little Pitbull, Falcao, Pat...)

You don't become the number 1 lightweight in the world via process of elimination.

Lol @ MMAth.

It also depends how alvarez wins, a finish holds more weight then a decision, we have to take that into consideration also.

Not really. Take Cain vs JDS 1 and 2 for example.

What do you mena if Alvarez beats Benson?! Don't you think Alvarez should worry about his lawsuit ... then sign with the UFC before talking about this.
