Idris Elba rumored to be next Bond

I've long said I thought he could do it, but he's 45 now, which means if they aren't already in pre-production, he'll be 46 by the time filming starts, and probably close to 47 by the time his first installment comes out. Jude Law is younger. Usually 2-4 years between films in an active Bond franchise.

I think Henry Cavill is a much better choice, for that reason, but I'm not sure how Brits would feel about that after he has been Superman. Arnie Hammer could do it if Brits could get over themselves, and demonstrate the same level of enlightenment as Americans when it comes to theater, but TBH, even I don't really want that. Liam Hemsworth is Aussie, so that might be close enough.

As much as I hate to say it, sine he left Game of Thrones high and dry, Ed Skrein seems like a phenomenal choice. It almost feels like he shat out that Transporter installment as an not-too-subtle public audition:

He might have some competition from his former castmates. This is as true an evolutionary case of an actor-becoming-his-role as I have ever seen; remember this pudgy, awkward bastard just a few years ago?:

ROFLWTFBBGQ?

That has to the dumbest analogy I've read on here...and that's saying something.

Why you said he is a great British actor.

Jim Carrey is a Great american actor.... why is it dumb? Its basically the same argument that you made.

Hiddleston looks like Brad Pitt next to Daniel Craig, and Cavill is tall and lean in comparison. Both are excellent choices.

Hiddleston can bring humour to the role. He's the best choice in that regard.

ok, i have only seen hiddleston in the marvel movies, and his face doesnt fit a bond for me. I wasn't saying that craig has a more handsome face though. And cavill seems more muscular than a lean guy, he looked huge on the latest mission impossible movie. And i don't see him slimming down since he has more DC movies

Have you seen "Night manager"? A mini-series I would highly recommend.

haven't watched this. i'll look into it

Hiddleston has to be better than a 60 year old man.

Plus did you see Meth face Craig in the last Bond, disqualified any requirements for Bond to be good looking.

going back to what i said to dickweed, i have only seen tom in the marvel flicks. But yeah, craig looked hagard AF in the last bond.

I wasn't keen on craig as bond back in the day either, but after casino royale i thought he was perfect for bond. Maybe hiddleston may do the same if he ever gets cast. But at the moment, i can't picture him as bond at all.

Kinda weird, but I'm supporting the Shaft reboot starring Shia LaBeouf so I guess I have to be consistent and go see the black Bond

Not sure if he is gay, I googled “Tom Hiddleston gay” and there were less rumours than I thought.

Maybe he has PR people trying to bury it.

Not hating on him but he’s top of the suspicion less.

I think he’s a fine actor. He would make for a more cerebral Bond than Sean Connery. Not quite as smooth as Pierce Brosnan but similar. There’s something of the “Prince” to him imo.

I’m not sure what people expect of Bond so I’m not sure how they would take to him.

I don't mind a Black James Bond at all. Actually I think it's kind of cool. I just hate the double standard climate we live in today. Reverse the races people would be screaming white washing and cultural appropriation. As long as the actors do a good job I could care less if a white person is cast for an ethnic character or vice versa.

Also how much do you want to bet that this will be nominated for an Oscar when in the end it will just end up being a run of the mil action flick. I'm sure it will be good as I own a penis and think action flicks are awesome, but it won't be anything we haven't seen before.

The problem typically becomes I'd say that the media are obsessed with scapegoating, you'll get a single casting grilled(often questionable so as with Johansson in Ghost ion the Shell) as if this somehow addresses issues with representation. I mean I think its just a mirror for society as a whole, its cheaper push a handful of cases to the extreme than it is to cure endemic problems.

As far as Idris goes I could see his Bond being somewhat similar to Craig's as a more brutal asskicker but dialing back on the upper class playboy, honestly though I kind of think they'd be better off making him 006 or whatever, a new character in the same setting. I think a fundamental part of Bond is that he himself is a bit of a relic of empire, Idris would I think naturally be more about showing up Mi6 as that kind of environment, rubbing up against casually racist toffs.

He'd be great as the new Bond, great actor. I hope they cast him as Hitler afterwards, also.

He is a superb actor, but would be totally miscast as Bond. He doesn’t look the part at all, and is also kind of old. But Hollywood likes to check sjw boxes so I’m not shocked they would go and change the character. Next bond will be a slight black gay trans woman.

I am a fan of Idris Elba, he was great as Stringer Bell.

No interest in seeing him playing James Bond though.

Western geopolitical enemies are like Russia, China, North Korea, Iran ... I can't see why a black spy would have any trouble infiltrating any of these places

Fun fact: Rodman got that hat from Q. The brim can be used to cut through handcuffs and jail cell bars.

Who the fuck is that guy?

Seriously, should I know him?

I ain't a sjw, I don't care about the social consequences in the slightest.

I do however like the bond character and Idris, I happen to think it would be cool to see him in the role and I don't really see the issue with it.

It's not the same as casting a woman in the role, that would change the character a great deal, I can't however think of anything about bond that would be out of place with a black man cast in the role.
I assume you haven't read the Bond books?
For me the main reason for Bond being white is that Bond is all about being an old-school British gentleman. He was written more than half a century ago, and many a time he was a spy in Eastern Europe and/or Russia.

I am very sorry if this hurts someone's feelings, but you can't be black and be a spy in Russia at the same time.

Yes, original Bond was a tad racist, a tad stereotypical. The character is a product of the age he was created in, and the social norms of that time.
I don't want for Hollywood to change iconic characters. First we change the ethnicity of the guy who was white for 25 films and as many books, what next? Add kind-hearted tolerant multi-cultural Orks to LOTR?
Elba is a great guy, cast him as 008 if you want him so damn bad in James Bond franchise, or, better yet, start a new franchise.
