Social ICE/deportation protests and riots megathread

I see American flags and more flags for the sitting President. Only one modified rebel flag.

Not as bad as attacking the US under the flag of Mexico
In general, how do you feel about people flying Confederate flags?

You're making it sound so easy to get a family member back once they're taken.

Ice makes record number of immigration arrests on single day

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/05/trump-ice-arrests-immigration

"The scramble to arrest as many people as possible has caused chaos, as citizens have been wrongfully detained and detention centers have become overcrowded.

Last week, a fourth grader was detained by Ice officials and separated from his father during a scheduled immigration hearing in Houston, Texas.

KTLA5 reported that Martir Garcia Lara, a student at Torrance elementary in south California, attended the hearing with his father on 29 May.

His teachers alerted the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA), which is lobbying for Lara to be released.

He’s alone and he’s not able to return home,” said Jasmin King, the president of the PTA.

“We have not received any information on why they were detained. All we know is that Martir is just a fourth grader who’s by himself, without his dad, without a parent, and just in a place that he probably doesn’t know, so we can only imagine what he might be feeling.”

If his dad was detained then the officers could have called child services to take him. Or maybe the people there said they would take care of him and not to call child services. I don't know the full story but no law enforcement is just going to leave a child when they arrest a parent. If no one is available they call child services to pick them up.
If they didn't follow required procedures then something should be done.

Everyone knows that Trump has purposely instigated tension by ordering “3000 arrest per day”without warrants, then sending in the national guard. Most of these people are US citizens most of the protesters were peaceful. Got teargassed and rubber bullets anyway.

What an ignorant media parrot you are. Trump instigated tension? These criminals have been terrorizing the city for days yet again with support of the local and state government that also prevent cops from doing anything to stop it. The tensions are already there and are constant.

I got the fuck out of there last night after hearing the Mayor and Governor very intentionally calling for increased violence by broadcasting that Trump is actually escalating the situation and spreading blatant lies about the use of the National Guard.

And as expected I am sitting here watching Karen Bass and CNN talk about how they support these peaceful protests while people are literally setting Waymos on fire live on the same screen as they speak.

"Only one modified rebel flag"? Those traitors carried the Confederate flag through the Capitol building you putz. So not just a foreign flag, but one of America's greatest enemies. The fact that you think some dude holding a Mexican flag during a protest is worse than those scumbags attacking the Capitol on January 6 with the Confederate flag is beyond heinous.

I mentioned the rebel flag right there but it’s mostly a sea of Stars and Stripes.

I have little regard for the confederate flag and question the motivations of people who wave it instead of the Stars and Stripes when they claim to be acting on behalf of America.

But I also recognize that it had been repurposed for decades and decades with little to no controversy as a general Southerner flag and not a rebel flag. As nobody complained when Skynyrd, Pantera, and mainstream not racist TV shows used it in their imagery and not to put themselves in a pro secession or slavery debate.

So many people who fly it now and view it as just as American as the stars/stripes or the Gadsden flag grew up in that time. The confederate flag was largely uncontroversial in modern times until Dylan Roof wore it in his attack on the church. Then the narrative around it turned back 100 years.

So overall, I don’t have any interest in the flag myself as it was never really an issue where I’m from but I also don’t assume anybody who has one or displays it wants the south to secede, to restore slavery or otherwise overthrow the union considering the attitude towards the flag for much of the 20th and 21st century

Flags for the president. Not the country, but an individual. Feels problematic. So does carrying the flag of an enemy country responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of Americans
