Garry wants all the heat, gotta respect it, especially with all the swerving going on of late.
Curious to see how the cardio holds up against a point fighter like Garry, also. Interesting fight! One thing I will say to this point, we haven't seen him tested in the UFC. He very well could be the guy who is good at being the hammer but can't be the nail. Not sure Ian is the guy to make that happen.
These guys are just getting started..I am pulling for Garry here…Prates has an odd presence about him and he is no Anderson despite how hard they try to Hype him.
Fight Dorks will be 155-1 after this fight.
Are they wrong tho?
Ian Garry is another example of a fighter who turned out to be so much better than I thought he was when he was starting out. He just didn't seem that good when he was starting out, nearly got sparked by a middling Chinese fighter, had a weird stance that sorta looked like Machida lite, and definitely came across as just... weird. Fast forward to today and I definitely have him in the Top 5 and I think he takes Prates with a combo of grappling and point fighting.
Prates is dangerous for sure, but I just think Garry's got more options and has proven he can handle the role as nail as well as he can the hammer.
He ain't Conor McG on the mic or in his personal life, but the guy can most certainly fight.
Sounds like he's trying to quit Earth before everyone elseHasn't quit smoking even though he's in combat sports! That's some kind of perseverance.
man, i was zero aware of this. so yeah, hes trying to hype itIts the main event for next weekend after Hill/Rountree fell through.
Agreed should tell us a lot about both guysCurious to see how the cardio holds up against a point fighter like Garry, also. Interesting fight!

Striking. You say as much yourself later in your post. He's a very capable striker. He has wins over Magny, Rodriguez, MVP, and Geoff Neal (yeah, that's a questionable one). He also gave the consensus #1 contender his toughest fight in the Octagon. He's good.lol what the fuck does he even do well? Man’s had 1 good round against Shavkat after doing Jack shit for 4 rounds. He’s a shitty grappler, decent striker as well as decent with distance while being un-athletic as fuck, he’s a WW Krzysztof Jotko.
If anything Garry is an overachiever and will be known for the fights he loses like Gustafson (except without the title shots)

I used to see him as an overachiever (think albino Neil Magny) but the run he's been on has me eating a fair amount of crow on this one and has forced me to realize that this guy is just way better than I thought. I was guilty of this with DDP for a loooonnnnngggg time before I finally came around to the obvious.
I don't think he's champ material but he's close and there's no one in the division capable of steamrolling him, Prates included. I don't care for him and his awkward schtick, but he is a damn good fighter.
Man, those Fighting Nerds are the first MMA team probably since Chute Boxe to really get me excited regardless of which of their guys is fighting. Prates, Ruffy and Borralho all seem destined to become staples in their respective divisions, and they are all so exciting to watch.Prates might actually be their best talent…
The way he and Jean Silva have been handling people is different
Both have just been fighting such low bar fighters that it is hard to say, Carlos has had the easiest opponents I think I have ever seen for a newcomer. Everyone has been the perfect body type, age, style and chin for him to look like a killer. (I watched all 3 of his fights and it makes the UFC look stupid to now match him with Garry)Prates might actually be their best talent…
