Ian Garry moves to #2 in the Welterweight rankings jumping 4 spots

Sometimes the knees never come back. He looks pretty thin and lost muscle. I'm a huge fan of the guy, but I'm not going to sit and pretend the last guy he finished wasn't in 2023.

Sadly every name besides Garry sort of washed up, and even that fight he didn't look his usual self. Garry beating Prates and Belal since have to put him above Shavkat. Though Garry has had nothing but decisions and I hate his style.
Crazy that fans can't understand that Garry beating two top contenders - including a guy coming off 10 straight KO wins, and also the former champ, is above a guy who's been on the shelf for over a year.

Also I'll add to what you've said that the Neal fight was very entertaining for a neutral (and Neal came in 5lbs overweight) but Shavkat showed a shocking lack of head movement, and his striking defence was piss poor. Great finish in the end, but as you say his resume is paper thin. People shit on Garry and Garry is by far his best win (a decision...).

Garry deserves the fight
This ain’t ain’t Contender's Series
A KO doesn’t automatically give you a shot

AND NEW

Better him getting the shot over Shavkat who has been out for almost 2yrs. The dude needs a tune up and Colby is perfect for that.
Colby ain't going anywhere near even a Shavkat coming off a major injury. Remember when Shavkat choked out Wonderboy on the same night Leon whooped Colby who then called out Wonderboy. And this week he has called out Wonderboy again plus Burns 😄

UFC doesn't make the rankings. its outsourced to a bunch of 3rd party journalists.

Garry's problem is that nobody cares about him. Cringe personality and boring fights.

I don’t know man. The more I try to seek understanding of the ranking process, the more it becomes apparent that it’s veiled in secrecy and quite nebulous.

The ranking panel is not known.

No transparency on how votes are aggregated.

The enthusiasm with which pink good proclaims, “You guys make the rankings!” at pressers is typical of one who doth protest too much.

I believe they use media polling as guard rails, but ultimately, they’ll adjust accordingly and rank how they see fit.

No way should he be above Shavkat lol

Yikes. That’s a take, and you had it.

Ian with two wins since their fight, both wins which are more significant than any of Shavvy’s wins. Ian beat a very recent champ and Prates who is everyone’s darling.

How long should Shavvy’s placeholder be valid? We’re coming up on a year. Divisions move on ya know?

Ian probably should be ranked number 2 but what is funny is that still does not mean he will get a title shot. They could even give Shav a title fight for his first fight back for all we know. The young guys have gotten smart and learned to not push for more than one fight a year while guys like Prates, RDR, Hooker, Gam, Alex, JIRI, Sean S, Merab, charles and Belal all fight like ever three months. Gary, Brady, ilia, umar, Arman, Arnold A, Sean O just roll with it. Fucking Arman is not even 30 and technically not in his prime. I thnik Gary is 26

Considering Shavkat beat him, I don't think he should leapfrog over Shavkat.

Man, Leon and Brady both plummeted 5 spots in a single week. They're barely in the top ten now when they were ranked #4 and #2 two Saturdays ago.
That feels harsh on Brady

You have a point for sure. in my head Shavkat is the champ in waiting but how long can one wait? These ranking means f all anyway so tbh I'm not too fussed either way.... It is what it is!

Yeah, I love Shavkat, any fighter that goes for finish. But clearly his wins are aging quick. It's almost like when Colby had Woodley and RDA on his resume, sure they were great fighters, but by the Usman fights they were retired or couldn't win a fight. I'll be shocked if Shavkat looks like the old fighter he was, I hope he does but knees don't usually come back in place like they used to.

Nope. Ever since Islam steamrolled JDM most fans have realized that it was the correct legacy move for him. Unlike ilia he actually defended his weight class for years before moving up. All eyes are on ilia now….will he duck Arman? That’s what the world wants to know….

Lol.

He didnt steam roll shit .. he won by decision in the only way he could win a decision...

Thats not steam rolling an opponent

no they do list the sources. but they are very obscure podcasts and media outlets that nobody knows.

per the ufc website:
The rankings panel is comprised of media members from the following outlets:
MMA Oddsbreaker, CFMU 93.3, Bursprak.se, FightNews, Fight Network, Gazeta Esportiva, Cherokee Scout, Burbank Leader, MMA Weekly, KIOZ 105.3, Vladusport.com, Wrestling Observer, Top Turtle Podcast, MMA Fight Coverage, BoxeoMundial, Kimura.se, MMA Soldier, MMA NYTT, Blood & Sweat, Inside Fighting Radio

I consume a lot of MMA content. I have never heard of any of these. This is worse than that Jones/Reyes media score snippet that everyone posts, where half of them are defunct, not in English, or flat out don't exist. "Wrestling Observer" always makes me LOL. That's actually one of the MMA media sources on that tally.

CFMU 93.3?

KIOZ 105.3?

Please, illuminate me. Who are the MMA masterminds from these esteemed "outlets"?

Why no:
-MMA Fighting
-MMA Hour
-Submission Radio
-Morning Kombat
-Bloody Elbow
-MMA Junkie
-Sherdog
-MMA Mania
-Lowkick MMA

Ya know, the MMA media outlets that fans actually listen to and respect? These outlets openly discuss their own rankings and justify their decisions.

Plain and simple, this assertion that select "outlets" dictate rankings is a total sham.

These people that make the rankings are fucking retards. How does Shavkat move up from #3 to 4 for doing absolutely nothing all year, but Belal, Lean and Brady all get bumped down 3-5 spots? It makes zero sense. Garry is Shavkat's only top 10 win, and what was Garry ranked then?
Wait, are you seriously asking how Shavkat moved up one whole spot without fighting when people ranked above him lost?

Leon and Brady got knocked out and Belal lost a decision.
