Neil is a decent volume striker, it's always been strong grapplers with a submission threat that gave him the most issues. Yes, he took it on short notice, but that's beside the point.
MVP did sort of blow Holland away, though. Kevin's only meaningful moment of success was when he capitalized on a slip by Page to get on top of him and put him in some danger until MVP made his way back to his feet. The rest of the fight mostly consisted of Kevin eating pistons of straight rights and walking into spinning elbows. The fight looking "competitive in terms of the volume of strikes" -- whilst probably true if you're only looking at stats on a page -- is also incredibly misleading. All of the impactful blows and moments on the feet were being had by MVP, who was landing shots that likely would have dropped or KO'd other fighters that don't have Kevin's durability.
I think Garry using a gameplan reliant on significant amount of low kicks and offensive grappling is potentially viable, but that's again beside the point. My original point of contention was the claim that "neither fighter is used to fighting dudes with similar height/reach" when they just had camps and bouts where they did just that and did fairly well, all things considered. It's not a totally novel experience or a consistent hole in their game.
