I think Khabibs dad dying, plus covid, really helped reduce the number

The first time I had ever heard Khabib talk about retiring, he did it in context of it being normal for 30 year olds to be as elders in his village. That fighting was for young men in their 20's or younger.

This retirement thing could be 100% cultural. He could go on to play a new role in the lives of Dagastani prospects, as is traditional for his people.
That’s how it was in the old school, you train all your youth, turn pro at like 20, have a 10 year career, retire at 30..maybe sooner by a couple years or later, but yeah no one really stuck around past 32. If fedor retired at 32 he would still be the undefeated goat. Depends on how much mileage you have as well. Injuries etc, I knew people who had to retire in college due to injuries when it came to American football. When the knees go, so do the ankles. Then finally the back.
