I Got 2nd Place In The Mundials?

If your opponent goes for a submission and you roll into his guard, in my opinion, it is not a sweep. I don't feel you got cheated, I feel that it was an incredible match and your opponent deserved his advantages and better luck next time

In addition, the TS did not move into top position, he was dragged there as the other guy was working on the armbar.
 
I edit my post, I read the rules again and what I just said didn't make sense.

and yes, I consider a top position anywhere on TOP as long as your not in your opponents guard. Meaning side control, kesa gatame, n/s, mount, twister side control. All top positions.

I may sound like I'm being a jackass but I'm really curious to what signifies a sweep. I've heard the argument about turtle guard and sweeping and gaining a top control, why don't you get 2 points for that?
 
Sean got the sweep, the position was inverted. It doesn't matter if he landed in guard, the positions were swapped. Sean was on the bottom and is now on the top. He executed the sweep from half guard aswell(barely thou lol). He deserved the 2 points imo.

Its the price you pay when you fall to your back when trying a submission from top when your opponent is still in a guard position, you better get it or else you will lose points.
 
Well then I think AzRich pointed out the key factor there. When his opponent went for the submission he kind of pulled him into his guard, Sean didn't necessarilly sweep him over.

Put it this way, I can see why the ref didn't give him any points.

You can clearly see David Bass drop the arm lock and Sean come up over on top.

I am unsure how the controversy is somewhat lost. Look at the clip again at around 4:40, you can see David lose or release the arm lock. Sean sweeps to top position.

He is really good. It could of gone either way it was an awesome match. If you compete long enough stuff like this will happen. The things I said before was not really me I was very upset at the time.

Sean, you definitely came across as ungrateful, but that doesn't diminish the truth of your case: you should have been awarded 2 points. It's really very clear.
 
tapping the first six guys was good, tapping the seventh wouldve been perfect.

Anyway, he deserves to win, you pulled guard and tried to coast to a victory.

wrong. when bass lets go of the armbar, sean is pratically already on both knees. in addition bass is already laying on his side when he lets go of the armbar. at no point was sean "sweeping".

When Bass attempted the armbar he was in top half guard, then he ended up on the bottom. That is an inversion of position and should be awarded 2 points.

I really dont see where the argument is here. You can argue David just dropped to bottom half guard and wasn't really "swept", even then it still doesn't matter because the position was inverted and points should be awarded to Sean.

If you are in guard(half, full etc) and then you end up on top, it is two points for you.

That is not necessarily true. If you fall back from guard to go for a long lock and eventually lose it and end up back in guard after a scramble, your opponent is not rewarded points for a sweep even though the positions were inverted. I am just saying there is a gray line on what is and what is a sweep and not every movement that brings you from bottom to top is a sweep.
 
well sean, I'll tell you this. You got mad skills. I hope you've got your purple by now. I haven't read the last 5 pages so you may have said it and I dont' know. Either way it was a great match.
