I feel like the UFC likes controversial decisions

I think it only seems like that because we're seeing more fights on more cards. We have a fight card almost every week in the UFC and now other organizations are putting on more cards. The 10pt, round by round system came from boxing. The average boxing match has many more rounds to make up for badly scored ones and they still have tons of shitty decisions. So it's to be expected in 3 or 5 round fights.
Boxing is super corrupt lol watch Canelo vs GGG 1 ... Canelo draw was outrageous... Canelo vs GGG 2 could have been a draw.

How many rounds could MMA athletes realistically be expected to fight? Would they have to be shorter rounds?
As of right now i think some of the lower weight classes could realistically go 10 x 3 min rounds, as long as every round is 10-9 there are no draws, not that it wont be any controversial decisions, but at least no draws.

The thing with some fights, or this 2 in particular is that the odd score card goes to the extreme, giving too many rounds to one fighter in the case of Canelo or giving a weird round in the case of Grasso, did the official decision seem that out of place? At least in the case of Grasso a draw with a non weird scorecard would have been totally fair and ok to the eyes of many, i thought she won 3-2, in the case of GGG vs Canelo i think a closer scorecard would had been way less controversial, 2nd fight i thought Canelo clearly won that, a draw in the first was being generous.

It keeps people arguing and tuning in and being emotionally invested in what would’ve been a fight not many cared about. Myself included.

Controversial decisions are very common, to the point you can see it pop up in nearly every event that we’ve gotten use to it.
IMO it’s that the UFC likes to exert influence over a sport that’s not supposed to have a pre-determined outcome. They basically are stacking the deck.

Its the same thing with the FIFA organisation.
They love controversy for the same reason.

I know I certainly like controversial decisions with all the debate and analysis that ensues

It makes the UFC look bad.

Boxing is known for controversial/fixed judging and you don't want UFC becoming that way. Most watchers don't understand that judging is done by the commissions. They think that they are UFC judges.

I just wish that we had judging accountability. When you have a really stupid call, there needs to be a public response, training, or even a reversal of the scoring.

If you are going to rig fights, you wouldn't do it in the vague hope of generating controversy, you would have far more direct financial incentives.

There's no doubt that sometimes they love manufacturing judging debate, particularly to sell rematches.

But judging controversy can hurt as much as it helps. Boxing seems to have suffered from it in the past. Just because us hardcore fan internet neckbeards get sucked in to the controversy, it doesn't mean a bunch more casuals don't just say 'fuck this fake sport, I'm out.'

Of course, the bottom feeding MMA media always loves controversy for clicks, so that drives a lot of this absent some master UFC plan.

Yeah but the main reason they like it is because it gives them an excuse to do immediate rematches, which is all UFC does these days in title fights, if you actually pay attention you will start to notice that every other UFC title fight is a rematch, its beyond ridiculous at this point.

Jones vs Stipe is a fresh new matchup coming up and I DREAD to think if its a close fight or even slightly controversial because I know what will happen next..

Enough is enough of these constant title fight rematches. Its all linked it with your thread

It gives people something to complain and whine about. For most cards that are weak, you will either get no reaction, or people will find something to be outraged about. You aren't going to get anyone appreciating skill or anything positive, so it's either nothing or whining. I don't think the UFC necessarily wants that but they just put on a lot of cards no one cares about.

I can see an argument for that logic, controversy sells, but in the past, Dana has been pissed at shit decisions such as the GSP vs Hendricks fight

Perhaps. But I don’t think they actually I like a draw for a championship fight.
