I don't understand Arlovski or the UFC's commitment to keeping him.

People are saying HW sucks. But there's a pretty good chance Arlovski beats up Jim Miller. It's at least 50/50

I like Arlovski as a fighter but time for him to retire, at least from the UFC. His name value could add more to PFL or something (I am going to clarify explicitly that I am not implying an Ngannou fight)

Dana already said last time that Arlovski should maybe consider retirement. Waldo Acosta is terrible and arguably lost to Jared Vanderaa, no idea why he was such a huge favorite.

There is

NO WAY

in HELL

anyone gonna pay him what he makes right now in the UFC,except maybe BKFC. Arlovski is far too sexy to compete there tho.

He just looks the part of what you want at HW - a mean nasty mf instead of a ball of fat. I'd keep him too just for that reason. His accomplishments are a plus.

It's clear that they appreciate him - he's been a company man for many years now and he has acted a bit like a gatekeeper. That being said, I think he is VERY close to getting cut - he's expensive, old, boring and even fans don't want to watch him fight anymore. I don't mind if they keep him on the prelims so he can earn some money though, but I think business wise they will probably not give him another fight.

They must have metrics that show he is still somewhat of a ratings draw even though his fights have given us all cancer from a decade's worth of boredom.

Look at Holly Holm - watching her fight is like watching a mixture of a soccer mom in a boxercise class hitting air and a tennis player practising their fake grunting and shrieking.

Yet she is one of the most popular fighters in the UFC.

If you are a company man and stick it out and dont whinge about pay or conditions and can hang from the old school, DFW rewards you and looks after you. to the detriment of the fighters health in some cases.

ofc the unspoken message is lots of these same guys could've done much better for themselves unyoked from the ufc bridle, but thats a high risk approach and lots of them are happy to just carry on
Arlovski is overpaid af at this point

They are scraping the barrel to fill out cards.
He's filler.

They probably see him as a "name" even though he's as exciting as watching paint dry (and even that is up for debate).

He is friends with Dana and has a good contract. He wants to be rich when he's old.

With fights possibly lasting only 5 seconds I guess it's good to have a pace setting fight you can feel reasonably sure will take up 15 mins. There'll be a percentage of people who want to see a legend and gives the card a bit of prestige. Like I know Bob Dylan can barely speak anymore and messes around with his songs a lot but he's still someone I'd love to see before he gives up. I bet a name like Arlovski gets people interested in a ticket through name recognition alone

Dana felt bad when he let him leave. The only guy I’ve ever seen him admit that with so seemed to feel he owed him I think. Probably more than made up for it now though. Arlovski makes a fair wedge every fight.
