I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

Well, for what it's worth, I had an "applied kinesiologist" work on my back.
I've never felt better -- as have several friends of mine (who also train).
In my view, applied kinesieolgy is legit.
For what it's worth.

Blah, blah, double post and such. Sorry.

I appreciate the testimonial, however, there is no shortage of those at all. They are just not empirical proof of anything.

However, may I ask... is your applied kinesiology treatment being given in conjunction with a vitamin/supplement regimen? If so, are they being sold right out of the AK practitioner's office?

Great post... I am not sure if this has been posted already, but the book "A Piece of Blue Sky" by Jon Atack is a great (disturbing) read for anyone interested in the history and methods of the "church" and the personal history of LRH himself...

I don't think it's published anywhere for reasons of threats, but there is an online version here:

A Piece Of Blue Sky - Contents

Disturbing that it continues in the 21st Century.

I can't wait to read this. Thanks for posting.

I'm off to my first protest in San Jose now. I'll post from my phone if anything crazy happens.

Actually, no. I do take a multivitamin, as well as fish oil, but I get these from other providers. My kinesiologist does not offer these items. I really think he's legit.
All I can really say is that he gets results, not only for me, but also for several friends of mine. What he does is similar to chiro, it's just not identical.

So Will, I'm assuming it went uneventful since we haven't heard from you all day.

You know... having read all this I'm actually kinda tempted to join Scientology for a while.
If only it wasn't so expensive...

I thought they were on the decline in Australia. Either way, you can probably join, but wont find out the weirder things without dropping a good chunk of cash.

Don't know to be honest... last thing I heard in the media was about exposing their drug rehab centre, narconon.
Not so long ago one of my friends parents (well into her 60's) and her friend were approached by them to take a "personality test". They actually laid a hand on her though, so she bashed them with her umbrella!

I'd like to check out the weirdness... a bit like a mate of mine who used to swear by going to pentecostal revival meetings on acid... but the time and money factor does count it out.

I'm guessing it's been asked already, but what kind of religious beliefs do you currently hold...and did you also hold them secretly for any number of years?

Thanks

The things i have heard about the Pentecostal Church from my friend who goes there, sounds a LOT like what is being described here.

You can get black listed, and it's very hard to leave if you want to.

really awesome thread. i'll share what little information i have...

in hollywood, there are many struggling people. a lot of people come out there to ''make it big'' and get swallowed in the lifestyles that place presents. members line the streets of hollywood boulevard, attempting to prey on tourists and angelinos alike. desperate for cash, i was looking for anything possible. these people were always hiring, and i got interested. first thing you should know, is the people looking to get the walking traffic interested in scientology are extremely pushy. they don't smile and are extremely forceful in getting you into the scientology building once you've shown any interest at all.

so i told them i was seeking employment. i really had no idea what would follow. these people plopped down a massive form for me to fill out. being young and stupid, i did start to fill it out to the best of my ability. the questions were utterly mindblowing though. when you fill out applications for normal places, they basically ask you generic questions and put what they want to hear. this particular form held back nothing. anything that makes a human being uncomfortable was mentioned in this quiz: suicide, murder, sexual questions. i really don't even want to get more specific than that because my stomach will start to turn. the questions that made me stop filling the form out were questions about how much loyalty i had towards my family. these questions were basically designed to see if you would become a slave to them.

i told them i wasn't going to fill out the rest and that i was leaving, but they wouldn't let me. three people guarded the door quickly before i even got near it. it was near this point i really started getting scared. they snatched up the forms and just asked me to watch a video, then i could leave. i refused to sit to watch the video, and a few seconds into it i knew it would be fucking crazy. it was at least 30 minutes long and was just insane. while the application asked you questions about your personality, the video was more like ''this is the answer. if you don't realize this, you may as well be dead already''. that's not verbatim, but it's very very close. it had a lot of moments where people were on the brink of suicide and were saved by scientology. i don't know if i could describe the video more accurately than that...

the form had my phone number, and they called me constantly. at first it was every day, then it tapered off once every few days. eventually i yelled at them and they never called back.

i was green, and i gotta say this experience in particular made me realize that this world has some extremely evil people. you must be on guard, for both yourself and your loved ones at all times. there are no moments where you are 100% safe. cherish any moment where you're at peace, because there are seriously depraved human beings in this world

It was amazing! But I didn't get arrested or beaten or anything like that, no.

I'm still away from home. So I'll post details when I get back.

It was so much fun though. I seriously can't wait for the next one!

WOW! I'm so sorry that happened to you, brother.

And that film you watched was called "Orientation". And it says that you can choose scientology or not... but if you don't, that you might as well kill yourself.

I had to watch that bullshit over and over again. Can you say brainwashing??

If you ever feel like protesting the church, send me a PM. I'll get you in touch with the right people. You ARE making a difference when you tell your story.

Thank you for telling it here.

Don't stop!

Eh... there's a lot of variation between various Pentecostal groups.
It's unlikely that you saw it, but there was a documentary on the ABC about a Pentecostal offshoot church which they labelled a cult. The show was called, "The God Of Broken Hearts".
Basically it was about how this particular group broke up families through the authority and control they wielded over the congregation.
There's also a heavy apocalyptic focus, a bunker mentality in regards to the rest of the world. Extremely insular.
I went to one of those churches as a kid and in my early teens.
In a lot of ways though you have to give them that control over you. Give in to the pressure to disconnect from those that aren't in the church. Socialise exclusively and spend all your time in church activities.
...but yeah, once your entire life revolves around the church and your whole family is in, it's incredibly difficult to leave. It's a world in itself really.

Wow, this thread is incredible. The internets are full of win.

Good read. Scientology is horrible. Every country should ban this shit.

Holy crap, I've been reading this from 1:30pm to 5:00pm, and I have to peel myself away for a while before the whole day is shot. I can't believe how much this is interesting to me now. I saw the South Park ep quite a while ago and I haven't really thought about it much. Sorry for your hardships, and thanks for helping to expose the situation. I'll be checking back here later.

Great to see your thread thriving. Congrats on the protest Will, keep on keeping on...
