I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

But, yet... Scientology is caught and convicted of a systematic and sophisticated infiltration of government and many years later.... "CONGRATS, BOYS!!! YOU'RE TAX EXEMPT, NOW!!!"

The idea of ANY church being tax exempt is open to debate, much less fringe churches, and MUCH less churches that were once caught BREAKING INTO IRS buildings.

<shakes head>

P.S. - Oh... was it mentioned that one of the people convicted and imprisoned was the WIFE of the founder?

No religious establishment should be taxempt. A church or religous organization being tax exempt kinda states that they are above everyone else.

I disagree. False teachings and poisonous beliefs destroy cultural ethics, morality, and traditional family values. Such dissent must be punished swiftly and violent to preserver the cultural wholeness of the nation, no matter how large it is.

Let something go unpunished on the village level, it will spread to the cities.

Let something go unpunished on the city level, it will spread to the provinces.

Let something go unpunished on the provincial level, it will spread to the nation.

Therefore, the ROOT must be pulled out and burned before the tree can grow.

I hear what you're saying, brother. But it must be by the hand of the people. Not some overlord.

You could make the same argument about cigarettes. And how many smoke in China? Why doesn't the PRC just kill all the tobacco company executives? Or Walmart for god's sake.

1. Educate.

2. Expose.

3. Eradicate.

Power to the people!

Billy, you are living in the right part of the country if yer fixing to get into wine.

Im a bit of a mild wine enthusiast myself. Red wine and scotch is pretty much all I drink anymore.

Ive always fancied taking a trip to Sonoma, etc. Hasnt quite panned out yet, but we'll see.

Rancho Sisquoc ring a bell? Local. About 14 bucks. Nice buttery cab.

I've been dating a recovered alcoholic. So I haven't really had any drinks in two years. But I didn't miss it much.

My favorite wines are made by Josko Gravner and others from that region in Italy. And those are very hard to find here. And very expensive if you do.

Run Katie, RUN!

This thread is great. I have never been more proud of the internets.

I've got a couple of questions Will.

Are these CoS camps/housing almost 'cult' like compounds?
Do you get to have contact with the outside world? Get to use the internet/watch TV?

If you are allowed out into the public, are you told to only go certain places.....interact with certain people?

You mention selling things to people outside of the organization. How do you contact them?

Is it like Jehovahs witnesses where you go out on foot and preach/convert?

Do you know if Scientology is big in Australia? Or how big it is in other countries?

What scares you the most when you hear Scientology being part of a certain organization/government department?

I wonder if anyone remembers a couple of years back, that cult compound got busted and they found BUTT LOADS of Women and Children and only a couple of guys.
They managed to hide this pretty well. It was just some farm compound.

Also a question for everyone....

Has anyone found any documentaries about Scientology?

I have found documentaries on cults and similar organizations, and they are very interesting/thrilling watches. It really makes you think how crazy this world is that stuff like this exists out there.

Very very interesting read. Thank you for sharing hard-to-find information and all the best to you.

Also Will in addition to being an overall inspiring badass, I have to add that your taste in entertainment is impeccable...Sigur Ros, M83, Flight of the Conchords...

Check out music from these folks if you don't know them already: The Album Leaf, Ulrich Schnauss, Explosions in the Sky, I Monster, The Winston Giles Orchestra.
Also there's these compilation albums called Hotel Costes which are all amazing.

Do you know if Scientology is big in Australia? HUGE. Or how big it is in other countries? IT'S BIG ANYWHERE THERE ARE STUPID WHITE PEOPLE.

What scares you the most when you hear Scientology being part of a certain organization/government department? THEY DON'T SCARE ME. THE END IS NEIGH.

Answers in all-caps.

Thanks brother!

The Album Leaf reminds me of Dntel... Who are the greatest of all time.

Explosions in the Sky are great. Also, I really liked the split EP that Envy did with Thursday.

Really good stuff, man. Thanks again!

Great post... I am not sure if this has been posted already, but the book "A Piece of Blue Sky" by Jon Atack is a great (disturbing) read for anyone interested in the history and methods of the "church" and the personal history of LRH himself...

I don't think it's published anywhere for reasons of threats, but there is an online version here:

A Piece Of Blue Sky - Contents

Disturbing that it continues in the 21st Century.

I had stumbled across that piece (on another website) when I was trying to get Biographical information about Jack Parsons. L. Ron Hubbard's dealings with Jack Parsons and their attempt to summon some manifestation of Crowley's Moonchilde is both scary and intriguing.

A Piece Of Blue Sky - Part 2, Chapter 6: His Magickal Career

yeah he got paid to shut up, to pay for his medical bills, he died from diabetes at the relatively young age of 57.

His other son killed himself

his ex wives told of how abusive he was.

He was a failure as a father and husband, hilarious that you follow him.

Why are all these people stepping out against scientology? i dont hear other religions complaining of this shit. yeah the catholics molested children. But i don't hear people always saying that the church or mosque holds them against their will.

multiple sources have stated hubbard wanted to make money, his sons said that, his wives said that.

do you really believe the xenu crap?

This is a great thread, and I don't mean to hijack it. But for the record, a small number of Catholic priests abused children. This is despicaqble, but according to a study by the Washington Post (and no, I don't right now have the citation), about 2-4% of priests engaged in abuse. Again, this is despicable, but guess what the Post found? About 2-4% of nearly every religion/occupation engages in abusive acts.
So please don't generalize about Catholics.
Thanks. Really.

Hey, Will.

I was hoping you could confirm or reject a suspicion I have had regarding Scientology...

It is obvious there are front groups everywhere, but are they directly entrenched in this apparent pseudo-science which goes by names such as:

1) Nutrition Response Testing
2) Applied Kinesiology
3) Contact Reflex Analysis

This is the jist of it...

Although there are different names and maybe slight differences between them, they all seem to be the same mumbo jumbo and usually practiced by a chiropractor or retired chiropractor (a profession which I am only now realizing is more alternative than medical lol).

Apparently the founder of "Nutrition Response Testing" is a Scientologist named Freddie Ulan. That alone is a huge turn-off for me, but I try to be open minded and not bury someone's trade as being a religious front without definite confirmation. However, after researching the shit out of things, this character Freddie seems to be a little more than just a Scientologist underling; further making me skeptical of the alternative/holistic services he is pushing.

Just in general, there seems to be a HUGE connection between chiropractors and Scientology. It didn't quite make sense at first, but now that I have read some criticisms against chiropractic as an empirical science and how much that field believes in a philosophy of panacea (one cure for all) and de-emphasizes germ theory...DING DING DING. lol If you look it up, even the history of chiropractic's founding seems to read a little like Joseph Smith and the Golden Tablets.

Anyhow, I have a vested interest in religion and cults, but most importantly in their attempt to slither their way into secular areas to try and control the hearts and minds of society. After all that I have now discovered about Scientology, the South Park saying is certainly ringing true:

"C'mon Jews, show them who really runs Hollywood"

I may have opened up another can of worms there. ;)

Thanks in advance, Will!

Well, for what it's worth, I had an "applied kineisiologist" work on my back.
I've never felt better -- as have several friends of mine (who also train).
In my view, applied lineisieolgy is legit.
For what it's worth. Smilies
