I absolutely cannot stand Big John McCarthy

Big john is a genuine pioneer,and THE referee of mma.
 
If you want a safe fair fight, he's the best in the game. Sorry if he hurts your feelings.

He has the attitude of a cop. Another strike against him. None of these things you say make him any better. They actually reinforce the OP's point.

Cops can eat shit too. Especially LAPD. If he is so tough take off the gun and badge. He always needs the aura of authority backing him. You may find that admirable, I don't. You sound like a bootlicker in general.

Big John is a clumsy fool.
Years ago, he charged in to award Brian Johnston a TKO win. He headbutted Johnston, broke his nose, and knocked him out of the tournament.

Agreed he loves the idea of himself reffing and being a tough guy ref. I bet he watches videos of himself reffing at home and thinks "man, I'm so cool."
 
He's the best ref because he's authoritative and not star struck kinda like judge Lane was best boxing ref. Fighters respect and listen to them.
 
He does claim a lot of responsibility for the birth of MMA. Claims he wrote the rules and even coined the acronym MMA. He does seem a bit arrogant, but is a true OG and a good ref in my opinion

Yves Lavigne bro? Wow man, you are usually pretty on point, but I really don't agree with that. I mean, you have to give a guy a mulligan or two, but he just seems so indecisive in there and I will never forget Matt Brown vs Pete Sell. That was scary as hell.

John is a good ref, but he's also a huge dick. I'm not a fan of the way he talks to fighters. He's usually yelling at them like he's their fucking father.
"HEY! Go stand over there!" "You. Stand up. You're not hurt."
There's only 2 guys in the cage at a time...not that difficult to learn their names.

Didn't he break a guys nose pulling them apart back in the day or was it someone else?

He used to basically join in the fight until the actual fighters stopped.

I'm sure he's gut some kills on his jacket from his cop days... Dude was front like during the Watts riots of '92 and there for the build up to that night... I'm sure he was no angel.

what about drugs testing the refs, they are in there for fighter safety, right?
