Hype over Topuria

If you don’t see the hype in this guy you are not just new to Sherdog, you must be new to the sport.

"Savage" response well deserved.

So Far he's been a success at being a badass with serious power !

Illia hype - unwarranted, doesn't make sense!
Islam hype - that's fine, he's p4p number 1.

Make it make sense.

He's got some elite wins recently and he's undefeated.
You guys usually have a hard on for "undefeated" status, so it's quite ironic that we won't allow the Illia hype, isn't it?

He’s good but his style is also risky. He gets hit, has almost got KTFO already too. He depends on superior power / speed.

Garbrandt looked great too all the way to the belt and look at him now.
who is the chick with the hair in your av?

I am quite new to sherdog - is it typical to hype everyone who scores 2KO to 1# GOAT ever or am I missing something with Topuria's performance?
Yes, you're clearly missing that max and Volk are top 15 all time fighters in the UFC. Volk has never before lost at fw, and his last defense at FW was against a younger talented challenger. The type of fighter that most 34+ year old champs eventually lose to. Volk is a Legend. Max is a Legend. They are not cans. These were not lucky KO's. Illa out classed both of them. He outclassed Emmet aswell who has also proven to be an experienced top guy who has fought everyone. I don't think you grasp how difficult it is to take max down and Topuria did it with ease. of all the things said, Topuria being the most complete champion in UFC today, Is very much true.

at FW there is Lerone murphy, Evloev, Sterling, and Lopes for Illa to deal with. I like his odds in all those fights. Futures bright for him. he's like 28

I will be honest, I don't like lower classes, watch only biggest fights. prefer MW+, probably because of my own 90kg, so I am not the best expert about it and I may be very wrong in it.
But I completely don't understand hype over Ilia Topuria. I watched couples of his fights, including his b2b KO in FWC.
He is 27 yo, 16-0. Pretty good resume, great even. Impressive.
But thats all.
He had 2 championships fights. EVER.
Yeah, he scored b2b KO of all time greats fighters. But old and weared, near the end of carrerr. And they were competitive fights. Volk won 1st round. Holloway was 19-19, not 16-20. He didn't showed them difference of the levels, that they don't belong here. He is hittable.
I don't feel him even being top1 P4P right now. And many writes best ever fighter. Most complete. Greatest striker. Soon double champion.
Why?
He has impressive run. I seen more impressive - Anderson, Jon Jones, Connor, Mighty Mo, even Machida. Right now what is doing Aspinali is for me even more ridicoulous. Islam is dominating his division even more. And people say Ilia would defeat him? Why? He is bigger, stronger, more dominating, better wrestler, without weak side.

"Sure the guy has billions of dollars, but that doesn't make him rich. Hell, Elon has the most and Rockafeller had more adjusted for inflation too".

this is sherdog.

he's either the GOAT or was never really that good

eez normal

Having a plethora of threads about the latest champion being GOAT is a new thing from recent years. You can go back and look at threads from 2012 onwards and scroll through hundreds of threads before seeing any of that. Mostly it used to be a lot of fighter analysis, info about fighters’ training, talks about upcoming fights, the usual “my guy would beat your guy” and of course “UFC is dying”. Strangely a ton of posters from the previous eras have been banned.

Anyway, I think social media has changed, the MMA fan base has changed, so what you’re seeing here now is just a reflection of what people are into nowadays and how they evaluate things.

stopped reading after “prefer MW+”

thread title might as well be “i hate mma”

I've tried to read more of the OP and it's just too difficult

Dominating and finishing two all time greats slingshots him into that conversation.

But also yes, here on Sherdog if you’ve recently won impressively then you’re invincible. If you’ve recently lost in devastating fashion you were probably never that good to begin with and people were stupid to believe you were ever talented. These are the rules of Sherdog and they are unflinchingly rigid.

If you can't see the differences between Topuria and Garbrandt I don't even know what to tell you.

"I just got in this scene so every important thing happen now and past is overrated because I cant say shit about that"

Ofcourse he had great year. That is nice.

After 20+ years of mma I am not super excited about every rookie. I dont have conor's diet. But its good to have entertaining fighter like topuria here, 100%.

Hes susceptible kicks. Hes been hurt bad twice by head kicks.. His leg is right there to get hit and like I said because of his stance his head is there too.. You're not outboxing him or outwrestling him unless you're Islam even then I think it would be pretty even and Islam will be forced to stand and strike with Ilia.

Islams kicks would be a bigger threat to Ilia than his wrestling in my opinion. Especially since theyre opposite stance of each other. Yair would be a tricky match up for him because Yair's legs are his best weapons.

He’s good but his style is also risky. He gets hit, has almost got KTFO already too. He depends on superior power / speed.

Thats why I think he going to get finish eventually. He won't hold the title long.

He's great, definitely overhyped af and it hurts that he's somehow already more popular than Max... Look at all the shit Max did in his career, damn casuals. I should clarify, by overhyped I mean the people talking like he can never lose, he's great but beatable and will probably get his first loss with the next 2 years if he stays active. We'll see.
