Yes, there always was. It’s where the tax charges stem from, so that’s where he has to be tried. A CA grand jury indicted him. These are the same charges as before. The basic Cliffs of all of this:

1. Weiss was appointed by Trump administration to investigate Hunter. His jurisdiction is in Delaware and he was chosen because they assumed thats where any illegal activity happened.

2. It turns out that the tax charges they found stemmed from either CA or DC (they chose to file in CA, apparently) meaning Hunter had to be tried there. But Weiss had no authority to charge him in those districts.

3. Hunter had waived that right and let Weiss charge him in DE, because he and Weiss had agreed on a plea deal.

4. Plea deal blew up. Weiss asked Garland to make him Special Counsel, so he’d be able to charge Hunter in any district he needed to.

5. Weiss “dropped” the Delaware tax charge, and re-filed it in the actual, correct district.

6. Here we are.
