How will Trump supporters rationalize this?

To be fair, I know a lot of Republican supporters who treated him as the lesser of two evils rather than a candidate they really wanted. Granted, plenty also treated him like the messiah, spamming pictures of him standing on a American flag coloured tank with a machine gun wielding eagle flying over him, but I think there was always a bit more of a split opinion about the guy than most more traditional Republican candidate.

The people posting the tank pictures really should be outraged right now - and the people on the Left who have been freaked out about the guy should be taking a step back and even lightly clapping rather than taking this as an opportunity to rub salt in the partisan wound. Whenever you wonder why our country is such a partisan shit show, if you have taken something like this whole Dreamer thing as an opportunity to gloat, well, look in the mirror for your answer - because you're a partisan shit show.
You've posted things like this before, but can you remind us why we should applaud when someone does the obvious right thing?

My initial reaction was that he is the scum of the earth but after seeing his follow up I was relieved he backed off his original comments. But I'm not going to give him a standing ovation for not being a monster.

And I know many Republicans that despised Trump but also despised Hillary and simply voted in hopes of getting tax cuts. Stuff like DACA makes their skin crawl.

I've told you before, I don't think Trump is gonna be a bad president, I think he's gonna do a lot of good things that your side will realize wasn't that bad or was a good move for the country.

Fuck you people set a low bar for "monster"... Mr.Peace prize spent 8 years droning and bombing leaving thousands of civilians dead, but deporting illegals, however questionable, suddenly makes a monster.. So I guess it's a selectively low bar.

Well some illegals will have to go back, and obviously he's gonna keep some of them.

It's a tough issue here and Trump is willing to work with democrats and come up with a compromise. That may likely be the most positive step for our country. So I think some of the democrats/liberals here need to chill.

So keeping ACA, keeping DACA and still using Obama's budget since Trump hasn't passed one are all gonna MAGA. I'm glad you've become a liberal Rip. Obama bless you.

I think it's more interesting to get your take on it. It contradicts everything that Trump said about illegal immigrants during the campaign. So why the sudden change of heart?

I'm confused... you support Trump on this or not?

This is less about Trump himself and more about his supporters.

He is saying nobody wants to, but he has to. Its the bloody law.

And i just explained to you how leading with compassion is extremely dangerous.
A leader has to make tough decisions that will protect citizens if it means being uncompassionate to foreigners

There you go with your insults again.

I think you guys need to chill. Trump hasn't been in office 8 months yet.

It's not an insult. It's a compliment. Trump is walking back on all the things you voted for. And you are applauding it. So its either some of you guys are just going along with whatever he says, or you knew the policies he proposed were bad from teh start but as long as it harmed people you don't like, it was cool. Which is it?

Gave up on ACA means it's staying.
Walking back on getting rid of DACA.
No budget for the wall.

That's good for Americans.

But you voted for ending DACA, ending ACA, and for a wall right since Trump said all those things would MAGA last year. Yes or no?

Kicking people out of the country who've never known another nation is monstrous. We don't punish people for the actions of their parents.
... do we?

Killing thgem tho...thats a ok as long as a black gut or woman is doing it. Spare us the bullshit you loons.

I hope you're right, but I'm skeptical.

Fuck you for setting such a low bar. Remember, the original thought was that Trump is going to deport kids born here and send them back to shitholes or send their parents back to shithole countries. It's highly immoral.

And it's noted that you changed the subject. We can talk about the inevitability of collateral damage and how every president that served during war in the modern error is a monster in your view, but you blatantly avoided the question.

Again, why should we applause political leaders for not being assholes (is that better?)?

I voted for MAGA. Making America Great Again. It's very early and there is time to get us out of Obamacare and other bad policies.

The democrats you hate so much are the only ones it seems working with your guy. Maybe you should become a democrat since its obvious republicans are the party of do nothing at all even with controlling both parts of congress.

Democrats to the rescue. Again.

Some of you are dumb as shit... You just don't get it.

These people came as children, they know nothing about their countries of birth. A decade of Democrats did NOTHING FOR THEM.

Trump will be the one to legalize these 800,000 who reside in heavily blue states.

He looks like a hero by not deporting actually quantifiable, awesome immigrants with jobs who work hard and he will probably get them their citizenship too. BAM, there's almost 1 million votes in heavily BLUE states.

The victory here is 3 fold.
--He leverages this against the dems and gets them to give him something in return.
--He gains support from citizens of both parties, he looks compassionate and gains votes.
--He gains moral leverage to deport illegals who crossed as adults.

You guys just don't get it. The reason people go along with him is because what he says and does, actually makes a lot of fucking sense.

You'll all still be baffled after he crushes the 2020 election...

I could understand the term more if it were applied less selectively. Our last two presidents signed off on things which should have had them labeled monsters well ahead of this, between bombings and drone strikes which have significant, recorded, civilian tolls - and doing so for years on end. After 8 years of praising a man who was cavalier about a few kids getting killed in the mix, I have trouble taking this declaration of "monster" seriously.

In my mind, you have to be a monster to be a president. The success of America relies on you signing off on abhorrent things. What chaps my ass is when only the other guy gets held to this moralizing standard, whereas for our guy, he gets a few thousand civilian deaths for free as he rules with a pen and phone from a cushy chair in Washington.

Trump is a monster? I didn't seem to upset you so much when our last baby killer was in office and you were singing his praises. Nw, get rationalizing... Sure our guy killed children, but at least he didn't deport them...

A thousand points of deflection, the post

They will find a way to agree with it, and say that is how they felt all along.

I think the unifying factor of Trump supporters is not Trump's policies, it is finding and unifying against an enemy they all agree on. First it was Obama, then all of the Republican candidates, then Clinton, and now "leftists" in general.

There does not seem to be any agreement amongst them on what the policies should be, because Trump had no idea how he felt about most things throughout the election. He had very few plans on how to accomplish anything, and seemed to change his mind a lot. He often just said people would be "very happy" and you "believe" him. They did, I guess. So Trump basically does and says whatever he wants now, and they can still rally around winning the election and attacking their common enemies.

This.

I've got a friend who's already went from saying "no amnesty, deport them all" to "yeah, they can stay. We don't want to blame them"

The wall was one of the reasons I did not vote for trump, or for anyone. Both candidates were a joke and I'm never going to vote for someone who's whole premise is anti-the-other-useless-side.

Just because I choose to support the legally elected president doesn't mean I support all his views.

But go on trying to paint everyone in whatever light you want to paint them in.

'tis indeed. At this point Trump could appoint Hillary as secretary of state and they'd applaud it. MAGA.
She has a lot of experience, didn't Trump say he was going to hire the best people? #MAGA.

To be honest, Hillary is a real bitch, but she'd be only like the 3rd or 4th weirdest Trump hire.
