Movies How was Prey aka Predator prequel

Also to the poster who said she was a Mary Sue, she definitely wasn’t.

She gets her ass kicked the whole movie and barely makes it out alive.

A Mary Sue is a woman who literally has no trials or tribulations, is better at everyone at everything immediately and easily defeats the bad guys while making any good guys look worthless.

Star Wars Rey
Rings of Power Galadriel
New Mulan

Yeah, this was the typical heroes journey just with a female lead, where the hero fails, adapts improves their skills and then triumphs. She also didn't do it all herself either, the Predator takes a lot of damage from the hunters and the Native Americans and they don't have her physically beating anyone up since that wouldn't make any sense since she's like a 100lb woman.

Pred versus the Trappers was awesome

would have been better if they used actual apache language and not english.
less mary sue for the protagonist would also have been better, and more believable. maybe make it a group effort against the predator, who also seemed way more powerful and dangerous than the one in the first movie.
Huh? They went explicitly out of their way to not make her a Mary Sue. The men of her tribe are shown to be superior fighters. She gets captured multiple times. The reason she survives and is able to turn the tables at the end is because the predator doesn't view her as a threat and she uses her brains, not physicality. I thought that was one of the best aspects of the film.

I wouldn't call it a girl power movie, it's way more nuanced than those kind of movies and she has flaws and has to use intelligence to win, not physicality. Her brother was a much better fighter but he didn't know as much about the Predator and the Predator had to resort to hacks to beat him.
Plus, the movie didn’t shit on her brother to make her look good. It was pretty heartbreaking watching her badass brother go down.

Everything after #2 is dogshit. And #2 is about 1/10th as good as Predator. Prey is no different.....DOGSHIT.

Yeah, the people who made the Star Wars sequel trilogy and a lot of female led movies in recent years need to watch Prey and take some notes. You don't have to make a man look weak/dumb to make a woman look strong/smart.

Na man, Predators and Prey were good C+, B- level movies. If you call Predators and Prey dogshit then you're not going to be able to accurately describe how bad AVP2 and The Predator was.

Obviously, it would take quite an effort to top the original, so Predator can safely sit at the top as the best of the franchise by a country mile.

I liked almost everything about Predator 2, except for Danny Glover as the lead. He was the one character that just didn't feel right for the part. I'm not sure if it was his age or whatever, but for some odd reason, it felt off.

I might be in the minority here, but I liked Predators. The concept was unique to the franchise, and the cast was good, although Lawrence Fishburne was a wasted character and his sub-plot was pointless and unnecessary. But I think the franchise needed to do something other than the AvP mashups (at the time), and continually remaking the same movie would only get worse and worse. Predator lands on earth, hunts people, same shit, different pile. Predators did try to mix it up some, and even though it wasn't a home run, it was worthy of watching.

When I had first heard about Prey and its plot synopsis, I was like "Here we go, way to fucking ruin it before it's even made.". A female protagonist, set long ago in history... against a powerful and technologically advanced killer? I watched it more than anything else to see what kind of trainwreck they were going to put to screen. I was pleasantly surprised and actually liked it. The most notable difference in this film from the others is that there was pretty much no reliance on humour at all (at least not that I can remember). I think anyone going into the film with high expectations or strong fanboyism and nostalgia might be disappointed. I expected a shit outing, and (in my opinion) it's a coin toss whether Predators or Prey is the solid number 3 in the franchise.

LIke most others have already said, The Predator was awful, and it's not easy to find any redeeming qualities about that movie. Literally, the worst outing of all of them.

I really wish the franchise would get away from the action/comedy genre, and just go straight for the hard-R rating and really make a dark and scary horror film. The AvP movies had the potential to do that, if they just used humans as fodder and innocent bystanders. Kill everything, no funny one-liners, no heroes, just savagery from beginning to end.

I dont think the original can ever be topped, but that is OK.

Once something is not new anymore,it can never be again.

Part of what makes the Predator so good is all we really knew about it,was it was an Alien. We barely knew what it looked like until the end of the film. We didnt know the limit of its abilities.

Thats what Predators TRIED to play on in their movie,ok we know what the predators are,but what are they doing with these people on this planet. That was one of the good aspects of the movie.

The problem, was they tried too many things. The soldiers being taken and brought in made sense. They would be observed in warfare, conflict on a mass scale. Taking the guy about to be executed, the yakuza, and the doctor was just taking this too far. It became too comical and corny.

Yes they absolutley have to get away from the action/comedy and apply complete ruthlessness to this series.

I always thought Predator vs Predator would be fun. two teen predators find LA at the same time

It's really not that bad. I don't know why people were so mad that MC was a female.

Yeah I kind of enjoy the idea of a committee of Predator psychoanalysts sitting around doing a personality profile on Topher Grace to determine whether he should be included in the group. The years of files and surreptitious footage they must have had on Topher in order to accurately assess him is staggering.
