How was Edwards vs Belal NOT ruled a DQ?

Ghost of the ufc intervened and stuck his fingers out against his will?
Leon was trying to do a couple things at once, the hand was a feint to set up a kick. It was not really meant to be a punch or a strike. And as others have pointed out the stiff UFC gloves mean it actually takes effort to ball your hand into a fist.

Sucks, but wasn't intentional.

Why don't brutal eye pokes happen in every single fight then? This narrative is delusional.

- Previously warned to watch his weapons

- Led combo with fully extended fingers towards opponent

- Caused intentional serious damage with foul and tried to follow up blatant eye poke with strikes

Can someone please explain to me why this wasn’t a DQ... better yet how is Smokin’ Herb Dean still employed by the AC? That guy is a disaster.
Do not blame Herb. Herb Dean was just following the stupid rules. The rules should change. Even when it is accidental, a point should deducted immediately.

Two fouls make it a DQ.

Please do not compare this fight with Sterling and Yan. Other rules, other things happened.

Takes a bit of bad luck for a really nasty eye poke, but eye pokes are pretty common.

It's obviously not impossible to not poke someone's eye with UFC gloves on, but UFC gloves make it easier to poke and other glove designs make it more difficult, so we really shouldn't be wearing these gloves anymore.

Agree to disagree. I think fighters do that to extend the defense and discourage their opponent from getting inside. Whether the actual eye strike was intended or not, the act was intentional and therefore they should be responsible for the outcome of it.
