How was Edwards vs Belal NOT ruled a DQ?

It wasn't intentional. He only got one warning. You really want to give guys more of a reason to steal a DQ?

- Caused intentional serious damage with foul.
You cannot say that with any sort of certainty. In fact im fairly certain Leon didnt intentionally poke the eye, that seems obvious.

Intent should not be included in these rules because its impossible to determine. Have clear, across-the-board rules and enforcement and this all goes away.

You don’t extend fingers towards your opponent

better yet...

You don’t lead combos with extended fingers towards an opponent

I understand if Leon did it defensively during a parry or to create space, but he INITIATED the foul. He literally ran at his opponent with a foul.

I hope Belal is OK, looks terrible

Belal's eye was swollen, red and bleeding. He knew the second he got poked it was over

It wasn't intentional, though

You can say it wasn't intentional, but the entire fight - including the time after Herb warned Leon - Leon was still reaching out with his fingers outstretched towards his opponent instead of fingers pointed up with the palm facing the opponent.

It's a shitty thing to do. I noticed even before the fighting-ending eyepoke that Belal looked uncomfortable late in the 1st round due to how Leon kept reaching out with the fingers in his lead hand. How are you supposed to throw strikes when fingers keep coming towards your face?

So regardless whether it was intentional or not, it's technique that is likely to result in eye pokes.

UFC needs new gloves. How many fighters need to get permanent eye damage because of these stupid gloves? Fighters have been complaining for years that due to the design of the gloves, they make your hand open and it takes energy to make a fist.

So they could say Leon has a 9-fight unbeaten streak.

Oh man, you shouldve been around for that first DC/Stipe fight with this logic!

Mma needs to give refs clear guidelines for fouls supposedly accidental or not. It gives the refs and fights way too much subjectivity. Two refs will call the same thing 3 different ways, depending on the day.

Yea that was brutal. It was like a jab with his fingers. Hopefully Belal's eye is ok.

UFC needs and English champion, espn sucked Edwards off in the studio just now saying how amazing he was.
