How often do you watch 'The Critical Drinker' reviews?

Well I've got no dog in this fight. Some people DO care very much about things like representation in fictional properties but I'm just not one of them. Any attempt to sell me the "black version" of something comes off as pandering and insulting.

The marvel stuff is another area where people are complaining about characters that are like 40 or 50 years old in many cases. She hulk has been around since the '70s but they announced the she hulk show and some people were upset because.... Why?

I'm genuinely not sure. Maybe they don't follow comics so are unaware that she hulk isn't some new invention to pander to women. That character is older than most posters here lol. Hell the Miles Morales spiderman is one of the "newer" reboots and that character came out in 2011.
See again, most of this is cool.

I don’t think they were angry there was a she hulk show. It appears they were annoyed about the politics that again seemed to dominate the show. Did they not humiliate what was a pretty decent Daredevil character on this show

If they made a she hulk show and she was just tearing ass on bad guys without all the men are shit nonsense I don’t think it would have got the bad reviews

It seems it was the story and writing that got slammed. Not the fact there is a female hulk

Agatha is a hella old character too the only thing they changed is not making her an old bag.
Nobody will watch this

Nobody was ever gonna watch it

But even less will now after that weird and creepy “gayest marvel ever” guy who sounds like he has emphysema or something

Sorry

Deviante will watch this show and tell everyone it’s amazing

But only him

Meanwhile, people who just want to watch good entertainment will probably watch the Penguin or something

I dunno I watched wandavision and enjoyed it. Lots of nods to classic sitcoms and Easter eggs for comic nerds. I can understand it not being everyone's cup of tea but there's a lot of other marvel stuff that's all action and explosions. It's largely based on comics I've actually read too which helps.

I haven't seen the show so I can't comment specifically. Marvel puts too much crap out for me to keep up anymore. But checking out clips it just looked like the She Hulk Being A Lady Lawyer angle that they ran in the comics back in the early 00s I think.

I dunno once the second wave of marvel properties started a lot of people seemed pissy that there were so many minorities. But these are all existing marvel characters and they made movies about most of the flagship characters first.

When would it have been ok to feature more female and minority characters? A bunch of people were pissed off about America Chavez showing up in the doctor strange movie but she's not new either. Just mediocre.

Ok but we're left in the same spot. The people that own LOTR for example are going to reboot and spin off that shit as many times as they can. LOTR was written a long ass time ago. All the protagonists are white.

They aren't going to continue to reboot it and leave everyone white because they want to pander to minorities too. They also aren't going to make a "colored folks only" LOTR either because we no longer live in a political climate where that's acceptable.
Want to pander to minorities? What if it gets bought by a South Korean rich guy. Why would he care, they can pander to black woman by casting a white hunk black women love and be done with it. Why is this they shall pander thing a given considering the US is not Communist China?

In no universe would you do that and work out for you because it is very inconsistent with the lore, the same reason you do not fill a movie about 9th century Botswana with white protagonists.

Never look into Bridgerton I guess lmao. Historical fiction that isn't accurate and doesn't claim to be definitely exists. Why? Same reason there are black rangers in LOTR now.
Someone at corporate thinks it's going to make them more money. These companies don't care about accuracy lmao.

Movie studios routinely buy the rights to stories and gut out all the boring parts. None of this is anything new in the industry. It's the same reason everything "based on a true story" is mainly made up bullshit with a few bits of truth sprinkled in. These people don't care about altering real historical events if it makes a better story, much less changing the race of a fantasy elf lmao. You guys seem to think Hollywood has much more respect for source material than they actually do.

She was in the 2nd Strange movie right?

That was a steaming turd

Of course fringe characters are gonna be less popular than main stream ones

No one is saying don't make stuff with them in. But maybe focus on the quality of the show first and less on their "insert tedious characteristic you want to push here"

You can't make fringe characters popular by pushing them in everyone's face in crap products

Daredevil is pretty fringe. They made a good show. It made him more popular. Still wouldn't do as well as a Cap or Iron Man or Hulk movie

They do care about money though

And these projects are failing

Hence why we are hearing about Marvel realising they f'd up and their political activist directors can't thrust their bs on the movie going public any more

Seemingly they will change tack. It will take a few years as there's a few dogshit social justice efforts they have sunk money in to. So we won't see the benefit for a couple of years. But less and less of that crap is coming out. Hence why so many shows or movies are being canned, pushed back or rewritten numerous times

If you wanna make money, appeal to you audience on mass

Write good comic book shows and movies that may or may not feature white, black, purple, gay, short, disabled people. Make it good first. The rest matters less. If it's a diverse female, non heterosexual character great. Make the show. But don't make the diverse non heterosexual the focus and only selling point of the show.

He has a surprisingly deep knowledge of films and shows. I liked him before I even knew what he looked like when he was just a schtick. I trust his reviews more than chris stuckman who is neutered now im guessing by his sponsors or youtube.

What's funny is before the MCU iron man and cap were not popular characters outside of comics nerds. They did a smart thing by using the ultimates continuity for these characters, where cap and iron man in particular were much more interesting characters.

I think a lot of the problem is much like GOT these movies were all based on established and very successful characters and story arcs. Now they're branching out more and we're getting turds like madam Web and Chavez.

If only corporate was that Gordeon Geko within the motion picture industry...
LOTR is a rare case where not adhering to it leads brand attrition which is what we saw.

Well they also could have made a good show with or without minorities and that prolly would've helped too.

Movie critics, lol.

These guys were cans back in the 80s…now the internet has made it a viable career choice.

I never really watch him, but I sometimes see other YTers react to him, so I kinda second hand watch him.

Fearless?
Go to third and pike in Seattle...theres a homeless man who calls black people N-Words and stands his ground, until hes forcibly removed by multiple fists and feet to the head.
The fact you look up to someone like that explains a lot about you and your post history.

This thread has somewhat gone off-topic, but for those who are still interested -

Based on some responses in this thread it seems many have the mistaken impression that Critical Drinker is a general in the 'War On Woke.'

If they watch a video about 'What Is Woke?' he sets the record straight.
