How is Volkanovski too fast for featherweights but too slow against a lightweight?

I'm really baffled as to how Volk practically has ultra instinct against the likes of Korean Zombie and Max Holloway who is one of the GOAT FWs, yet Islam caught him multiple times in the first fight, then again with 2 head kicks in the second fight.

I don't get it.

You know how height a lot of time is BS? You can't trust fighter reach stat either. Volk is listed as having more reach than Islam which is unlikely considering the height discrepancy. Your limbs are proportionate relatively to the rest of your body.

Islam was beating him to the punch cause he had more reach

Just because a strike landed doesn’t mean you were too slow. Striking is very intricate with faints, movements etc. and sometimes you get hit. Max hit volk way more times, watch their first fight. Islam is just bigger and stronger and landed a decisive blow.

fighting is very fickle. Sometimes 1 shot that lands and its over, it doesnt diminish your overall skills or abilities.

Despite what Volk said about feeling in his "prime", the dude is getting old (age 35) and is on short notice. Also, Islam simply had longer reach. Sure Volk has long arms, but he's still small enough to need to get inside of Islam's reach to land strikes, which gives Islam more to to react.

Holloway, despite being so tall, had T-Rex arms.

They should measure arm length instead of wingspan.

well, you see. one guy trained consistently for months, had ample time to recover, and another guy literally just got off the couch. when you don't train consistently for a big fight, everything is off. speed, timing, strength, endurance, game plan, etc. so, what you saw out there was all bullshit. wolf tickets.

Volk pretty clearly has long arms for his body. It might not be massively pronounced becuase most of the time, people with long arms have long legs which emphasises the ganglyness of a fighter, but volks leg reach as a percentage of his height is smaller than most ufc fighters, even max with short arms proportionally has longer legs, same with gaethje who has a negative ape index but proportionally longer legs. Volk is in the same situation with evloev, stipe, dj, and probably a few others I can’t think of right now

Look at him and Chad Mendes standing right by each other. Around the same height and bodily proportions (legs, torso etc) and yet Volk was listed as 71 1/2 reach vs Chads 66 inches. Volk should be able to touch his knee caps from a standing position.
