How do you rate Jon's legacy as a Heavyweight?

Absolutely awful and for me, it hurt his legacy more than it helped it because I'm not a mark for belts.

For all of the flack Mighty Mouse gets for not moving up, Jones sticking around LHW after smashing Gus' ghost in the rematch was an even bigger joke and seeing the supposed GOAT take on illustrious contenders like Smith, Santos, and Reyes AND STRUGGLE against them was tangible proof that he was not the same fighter after the PED busts.

Then, to make matters worse, he FINALLY goes up to HW after it somehow gets even more barren of talent and cherrypicks a completely 1 dimensional striker and a guy in his 40s coming off of a 3 year layoff??

Jones from 2010-2014 was top 3 best fighters EVER at worst but he has been in "Cherry Picking Mode" much longer than he was in "Dominant Champion Mode" and that, along with all of his scandals, will go down as his legacy IMHO.

I hardly think people are going to be remembering his illustrious wins from 2011 when he's in the headlines for drug related scandals time and time again over the next decade. The guy's more of a cautionary tale than a GOAT for most people already and he only retired today

more a feather in his cap and the cherry top of his career rather than the whole story of course. Just can't say he didn't win a second title and defend it. It's a great feather in the cap of an incredible career as fighter.

So a one hit wonder, nothing special.

It was just a best ever LHW vs best ever UFC HW scenario that only comes once in a while. It was more just the for fun both guys retire on their own terms kind of fight. It's very unlikely that a new LHW goat will emerge and will be active at same time as a new HW goat, then they would also have to fight. There will never be a fight like jones vs stipe again, in that way. It was very historically unprecedented

The same as if he had a one off fight at HW against Gane

Which was impressive, but not much of a HW legacy at all

Ultimately it hurt his overall legacy much more than it helped it
Anderson Silva moved up and beat Irvin , Bonnar and Griffin …..everyone saw that as helping his legacy

GSP Cherry picks one eyed Bisping and most are saying it helps his legacy

Jones moves up 30lbs and dominates Gane and Stipe

And apparently his legacy is fucked

Most of you letting the hate get in the way of common sense ….it’s laughable

A fraud

-fights a guy with 0 wrestling that gets ragdolled on the regular basis by middleweights and welterweights in sparring.
Yet no one else including Ngannou had finished Gane and Jones did it inside the 1st round of his debut.

Not a Jones fan but the bias around here is out of control like usual. No one is saying Jones has some amazing HW legacy. It does add a bit to his LHW GOAT legacy, though.

Didnt fight enough, i think
Gane is a good win
Stipe was a bit too rusty for me to call that a good win. But its a win.
Jones' legacy is and will be largely defined by his LHW run

A guy who got wrestle fucked by Ngannou, and a 45 year old man. Yep those are your "flawless" examples, lol
Why couldn't Ngannou finish Gane? He's a huge HW, much bigger than Jones, and went toe to toe with Fury in boxing.

lol.

He had a good win over Gane.

That's the extent of his HW legacy.

Freaking Bork Chestnar has a better HW legacy.

Great*

It's needs the asterisk because you know He popped 3x.

Fury trained for his fight with Ngannou with a daily routine of eating 6 gallons of ice cream, drinking a bottle of Everclear 190, and spending his few conscious hours flopped out on the couch playing Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! The results of the fight are more a reflection of how seriously Fury failed to give a fuck than on anything about Ngannou.
