how do you fight a guy like morales?

Yeah the problem with being patient is that you're eating punches constantly.

He's catching dudes from miles out

Is there a fight you can point me to which shows that he is capable of "leading the dance" so to speak?

It is a distinctly different skill/tactic
and generally fighters trend one way or the other.

What he was doing against Burns was a VERY slick counter game.

He was baiting Burns to lead and Burns was taking the bait, which worked out great for Morales, but it does leave me curious how he would handle someone who took a "Chris Weidman vs Anderson Silva" approach and prioritized maintaining defensive responsibility and controlling terms of engagement.

The tactic I would like to see an opponent try vs Morales is something called "going first and third" which is essentially taking Morales' preferred terms and switching them on him.

Knowing Morales wants to counter, you would feint him, draw HIS counter (when you want it at the range YOU choose) and then you counter that
Or
You throw a "throw away" strike which serves the express intent of drawing a counter, which you are expecting, again looking to slip/parry and counter.

This is an advanced approach but there are guys at WW capable of executing it. JDM & Garry, possibly MVP, maybe Prates

Has he dealt with a strong pressure fighter trying to smother him? Wall n stall? Can he fight in a phonebooth? In the clinch? Off his back foot?

I think you've gotta crowd him, someone like JDM would give him trouble as he's 110% down to fight in the pocket and make it a dirty, boxing heavy scrap. Brady's raw power and constant wrestling. Shavkat's massiveness and terminator style. There's a few that can make it extremely uncomfortable for him, all of whom are miles better than anyone he's beaten yet.

79" reach at 170. NOt bad

I mean Sean isn't that small body wise for BW, Morales looks pretty thin depth wise at WW. Burns is called a LW nonstop here, but is much thicker. Morales has a great frame size though. Still I wouldn't say he's MW Pereira huge.

iu
Yeah.. no..Omalley fights at 150. Walks around at 155

Morales was 196 in there

150/135 = 11.11% increase
196/170 = 15.29% increase

That's a huge difference actually, but actually. You know I don't care to get into it more. I think Morales isn't going to be easy for anyone. Fighters are getting bigger every year though and eventually someone will handle his size.

he's young fast and strong, for sure picking your shots sticking and moving and not letting him get comfortable would be a start.

UFC put up all his fights

Well fuck. that's an unfair reach. He looks like Giannis landing some of those straights and jabs.

He gets sloppy but like.. It's the UFC. None of these guys have clean striking. Maybe 6 of them..

I think he matches up well against Garry and Buckley.

Garry has the most trouble. Weighs 20 pounds less... used to fighting on the outside.. he probably gets stopped

Buckley --- height and reach disadvantage. Might not have the power or tactics to overcome that. Has he won on the ground?

Lol name checks out...

Broscience indeed..

You haven't watched the sport enough if you think that guys unbeatable...

We dont even know what his ground game is like or his cardio over 3 or 5 rounds...

Considering he cuts a truck ton of weight my guess is hes a 2.5 round fighter tops...after that the steam will start to go out...maybe even less if your grappling with him...

But to answer your title question...

Whatever you do , you dont stand and trade with this guy, definitely not at the beginning of the fight... that's for sure... You make him grapple while attacking the body and stay sharp defensively... Once he begins to slow , you pour it on...

I never said he's unbeatable. I said if he can't be taken down he's unbeatable. Thats a big if..

Here the thing though...

He's fought no1 of merit yet...WW has a steep incline to get to the top...

Hell... A Neil Magny might cause him problems ...

Shavkat? For sure taking him down...and tire him...and wont let him breathe for the full 5 rounds..

Its simply too soon to be talking this way about Morales

Nows his time. I think he's like 25. He's as good as his skill but also he knows he can take a shot and pressure. And then fire back with deadliest offense

Could Ian Garry fight him like he fought Prates? I'm not sure

I just said I like him against Garry and Buckley. Buckley has basically the same level of wins.

The fight comp swayed me against Garry.. I just don't see how Garry wins with a MAJOR reach disadvantage. His whole thing is being rangy
