Growing up, whenever my parents grilled steaks, I always had to take mine off first because they cook the shit out of theirs. Seems like such a waste.

That's the way I look at it. Anything past medium is getting rid of all the flavor and well done is essentially burnt. You don't like the taste of steak, you like the taste of burnt meat and A1.
