How did Shogun solve Machida's style?

He travelled to tibet and climbed the highest montain there, the wise men made him walk over hot coals , then capture an eagle and for his final test he stood naked in the snow for 3 days
Once the trials were defeated they passed on the secret , gleamed from centuries of meditation and reflection on the martial arts and said
''punch him in the face ''

Leg kicks and a great chin in the first fight.

Saw the straight left coming in the second fight, timed a huge overhand bomb.

Kinda simple.

He managed to establish a mid-distance from which he could kick Machida and then cover up quickly when Machida's counter came.

not standing and striking

Contrary to the conventional wisdom about that fight, he did just fine against Machida in the stand up. Outside of catching Jones when he was off balance on one foot, Machida didn't do much of anything. He only landed about 14 strikes in both rounds. Compare that to Machida's other fights in the UFC against everybody not named Shogun. Machida has totally humiliated everybody else standing.

Considering the fact that Jones had only been training striking with a real camp for about two years at the time of their fight and that Machida has been doing it since before Jones was born, I'd say Jones looked pretty good.

Machida decided to fight a kickboxing match with Rua, stupidly.

you would say that

Machida is a fantastic fighter, but his counter is pretty much always the rear hand straight. Shogun and Jones both were able to time the straight and move their head off center to land an overhand. An overhand right was the beginning of the end in both of those fights.

You have to make Lyoto strike first and be skilled enough to counter him, which is what happened in the second Shogun fight. Shogun faked a leg kick, Lyoto took the bait and fired a huge straight left hand which Shogun timed and countered with a right hand to the temple.

Well Shogun said about the second fight, noticing Machida doesn't use a boxing guard to cover his face, his plan was to go forward, throwing 5 or 6 punches to the face in straight lines. It was a good plan for Shogun. It really screwed Machida up.

I'm pretty sure that's the way.

By losing the first fight and getting a second chance.

Funny thing about the punch that dropped Machida is that he (Lyoto) said afterwards that Shogun eluded the punch incorrectly and he was supposed to slip to the outside or something.

Aggressive as Bader when he failed but had the striking skill to back it up.

Trained together in the past and he trained with high level shotokan guy

Pressure/moving forward.

Every fighter that has ever pressured Machida has tagged him

If you rush forward on Machida, he back peddles with his hands down. The fighter usually stops at that point. Shogon chased down and hit him every time.

I think Machida is the worst guy I've seen when it comes to someone pressuring him and I see Hendo being able to do the same thing Rua did.

Minus the speed and the diversity of strikes; sure Hendo's going to do same thing to Machida except Hendo's getting TKO'd or UD'd when he tries.

The pressure thing is bullshit. Fighters like Sokoudjou, Couture and Thiago Silva tried to pressure him and played right into his game. Being quick, defending well, and using excellent footwork in cutting off the ring worked for Rampage, but it's more complex than just "pressuring him."

Machida, being a karate fighter, stands with his chin way back and maintains this extremely long-range stance throughout the fight, tagging people as the try to close that distance. When pressed up against the cage, he is usually able to either back his opponents up with a flurry of punches or quickly slip out the side to escape.

Shogun, in the first fight, was able to hit Machida in his long-range stance with powerful leg kicks, and kept his hands up as he threw the kick to block Machida's straight counter. Then when pressured against the cage, Machida was offered a choice of eating a huge kick to the body or a left hook whenever he tried to escape out the side.

This, over and over again over the course of five rounds, led to Machida wearing down.

I'm not really sure what happened in the second fight. Machida seemed to have employed a different strategy, trying to fight inside and use wrestling--Shogun's biggest weakness--but obviously Shogun made some adjustments as well.
