How Did Miocic Go From Losing To Struve To Being Good?

How is Struve the barometer of whether you belong in the ufc or not? The guy was a top 10 hw

Miocic couldn't stop him early and didn't deal well at all with Struve's pressure after he realized that Struve wasn't going to easily stopped. Miocic was rather horribly gassed by the time he got stopped, as well, from what I remember. Struve showed himself to be a tad more durable than he gets credit for in that fight (and the Hunt fight). The thing is, most of Miocic's flaws in that fight were correctable flaws in the long term, so it wasn't the kind of loss that would really devastate his career.

Won the first round.
Got finished in the second.
Shit happens.
Beats Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga.
He's now a top ten.

wasnt he a baseball prospect before learning to fight like 6 years ago guy hasnt been fighting that long its just ufc has no hw so they sign anyone they hear about thats got any upside

Maybe cause struve is great fighter? Moron

Yeah "being this good" at beating a LHW who took him on a few days short notice. Wow what an accomplishment !

Sherdog : the land of the short term memories people.

Shit happens at HW. Big dudes with small gloves who all carry KO power, Stipe just got caught with some shots.

agree that losing to Struve doesn't bode well, but if you look at Stipe's fights with Nelson, Struve and Gonzaga, he's clearly better on the back foot when he's catching guys coming in. He takes shots when he's pushing forward. Hurt Fabio right away when he stepped in.

Just because struve loses by KO doesent mean he's a bad fighter

Struve has improved since his early years, dude's legit.

He was always good, he just had an off night against Struve.

Uh... fighters improve? It's not that difficult of a concept to understand.

Love threads like this because half the people trying to tell you his story, either wrote him off, or didn't know who the hell he was till he beat Roy Nelson.

Keep going guys.

I must admit that I completely wrote him off after he lost to Struve. Struve seems like a barometer of whether you belong in the UFC or not. You beat him, you can stay. You lose to him and you're probably not lasting too long. Yet, somehow Miocic went from losing by TKO of all things to Struve to racking up a decent little streak for himself.

Struve isn't a can by any means, he is just pretty shoddy dealing with pressure and power and Miocic isn't one to bring it nor does he have freakish power. Combine that with Miocic's style and he was ripe for the picking vs. Struve. He was tailor made to pick apart Nelson though.
