How can this Paramount deal screw us over?

I’m expecting Paramount to announce that an account can only be used in one household, causing people to stop freeloading off others and get their own subscriptions. I know it’s not the worst thing in the world, since the subscription isn’t ridiculously price, but still a punk move.

Do you see them raising the cost on their subscription price? What else can you see them doing to make the UFC fans fork over a little more cash to make up for this deal?

I seriously doubt the $7.99/month basic subscription will cover all UFC events. They'll probably require some premium higher tier subscription. ESPN+ is jacking up their prices again too.

Ita literally the worst app on tbe market. Paramount plus has consistently ranked as one of if not most frustrating app by users.

That's what they replaced a glitchy ESPN+ with. Granted it will cost less now but the quality of viewing will be worse unless Parsmount makes tech upgrades.

But paying 14 bucks a month an getting all is better than paying 90 bucks a month for ESPN+ n PPV.

As long as the numbered events are on national CBS then I'm good. It's what most major sports does with their premier content (today I'm watching 4 NFL games and men's US open tennis grand slam final all on free national broadcast).

This is my main concern with Paramount. The UI is a buggy mess. I’m seriously hoping they do some big changes to it before the next year.

UFC is famous for making their product better, not worse, and for caring about quality when partnering with companies. I'm sure things will be fine.

UFC already watered down the card quality in the last few years. Subscription service probably means even worse quality cards.

Also Dana left door open to do PPVs, like 4 a year. So you could pay 120$ a year for paramount and maybe 400$ for 4 PPVs. They were very careful not to say everything is covered forever.

Already mentioned is paramount being shitty. I love all the shows on there but cancelled awhile ago because the app freezes up and was horrible compared to Netflix or Hulu. We'll see how live UFC does.

All these negatives and Im cautiously optimistic still though. Renewing ESPN probably would've been guaranteed 8 years of the same.

This.

Over time, the UFC business model has been about commoditizing their product. They want to get the UFC brand out there first and foremost. So with more cards and no incentive to generate PPV buys, they're going to keep putting regional level fighters in the cage against other no names and let the cream rise to the top to generate stars.

Paramount has great shows on tbere so I got it. But its a TOTAL BUGGY MESS. ESPN is actually better right now. The app is slow, the functions are terrible

This. UFC signed with a dead app who will shelf the entire sport between Rosanne reruns. In B4 "derp this is a good deal and you're complaining?!" Simp quotes me

Seriously doubt they put PPVs on regular network CBS. Cards like yesterday sure but not PPVs it would make little business sense. They may put 1 a year but thsts it.

All the extra money coming in makes Dana/Hunter/Sean/Mick care even less about the product.

I think you mean the numbered events. You can't have a "pay per view" on an over the air channel.

I predict:

-watered down cards to the point of absurdity, like I might be fighting on them (for some old Reebok coupons, but only if I win)

-the basic subscription will be stuffed full of ads and will steal all your info if you're using an app; the basic subscription may not include all of their back catalogue

-no subscription will include a PPV-level event until a month after it happens and you'll have to purchase it separately in that time

They already announced that the numbered events will be on CBS

Literally 80% of the professional sports leagues in US put their premier content on network TV. The ad revenue per game/event is often in the 10s of millions of dollars. That's a way better business model then hiding it behind a PPV that relatively speaking few people will actually buy. It also expands your market for long term growth so yes this makes make business sense it's why most sports leagues do this.
