Opinion How can anyone honestly say that the left is patriotic?

The right and patriotism is like many other positions/institutions the right claims to cherish. We can go on and on about their defense of traditional marriage as long as it’s at the expense of a group they hate. Meanwhile they champion men who’ve made a mockery of marriage. Christianity? Lol the hypocrisy of the right has no shame when it comes to their love of Jesus. Just as long as he doesn’t get in the way of their second amendment rights or telling them to wear a mask to save a life.

Patriotism to the right is a part time thing and only something they claim to support when it’s beneficial. These people flying the flag any and everywhere along side the rebel flag do so because of how they think it makes them look, not because they believe in those things.

The same side that is the only side to try and delay and stop the peaceful transfer of power? That group? That is the one you are putting your money behind to not take Russia side during a war? The GOP is fake, just like their admiration for this country and flag. The GOP has more in common with ISS than any patriot.

What's more patriotic than the group that believes in no borders, wants to tear down all our Nations institutions, loots and burns cities to the ground, and forms their own Autonomous Zones. Yeah can't imagine why people wouldn't find those things patriotic.
 
Didn't the Right just try to circumvent the Constitution and overthrow a (small d) democratically-elected president while many carried the flag of a traitorous breakaway republic from our history?

When I hear the Right talk about the state of America today the word "Love" does not come to mind.

Edit: If you pride yourself on being a conservative or progressive your loyalty is usually to your team first and country (maybe) second.

I’m a moderate. I might come off as a liberal but that’s only because I won’t let you guys post outrage porn without some pushback. And the GOP is turning into a huge white old lady named Karen.
 
patriotism can be a very dangerous thing that blinds a person to change that needs to be made and causes one to weigh facts incorrectly with confirmation bias.

personally i dont have any use for patriotism at all but can still love the country i live in not because its better than any other but because its my duty to do so and where i happen to have some natural responsibility towards.

if you love something you have to be honest about its limitations and weaknesses and be willing to correct what is wrong. i think if people practiced a little more of this it would not seem so strange for people to do that with country as well.

Also, a weak understanding of Patriotism is very dangerous. For instance, a true Patriot would believe in every amendment regardless of how uncomfortable protesting and burning a flag may make them feel, a true patriot would understand that is protected.
 
I understand the "good people on both sides" argument, but at this point, id be HIGHLY embarrassed to call myself a Democrat, a liberal, or a leftist.

im fiscally left and socially right man!! we are the exact opposite. but i dont accept the role of the gov to set social policy either and do not look to them for anything on that level.
