How athletic are UFC fighters compared to athletes from other sports?

I'm sure it would be interesting to get an assessment, someone could probably make a dumb reality tv show where they assess this, but in truth, this was not the best place to gather ideas. Arm chair jocks aren't really good at assessing athleticism. Even if they played a sport high school, they are clueless as to what is involved at high level athleticism. So everything said here, probably as useful as your preconceived notions.

heres a LW/WW fighter laying out one of these so called "Elite Athletes"

roger Huerta knocks out D-Level NFL washout. Meanwhile, another pro fighter tells frat boy to google him and can't even knock the guy's hat off:

Refer to the athete hiarchy Maincan has produced.

Pseudosporters are henchman - tier athletes at best.

That's all you need to know.

If he had a choice he'd obviously choose the NFL, though its clear he's not quite cut out for it.

A-B Level athletes only

(unless they're insanely hard workers)

Exactly. Imagine all current NFL athletes suddenly wanted to become MMA fighters. How long would it take for them to completely populate the top 10 in the upper divisions? Not very long at all, the gap in athleticism is that huge.

again, it's a silly debate. roy jones did not stand out as an athlete on a development league basketball team. he was arguably the best athlete boxing has ever seen, and would out "athlete" any nba athlete in a ring.

tyson too sucked at basketball.

charlie ward was an average athlete in both basketball and football, but combined he's a freak.

Jesus guys c'mon, Brock Lesnar won a championship in the UFC.

That's like the post-Davis Raiders winning more than 6 games.

Connor McGoat said it best. If he had the choice between 10 rounds of hard sparring and strength and conditioning, he would choose the 10 rounds of sparring any day.

If Conor had actual athleticism, he'd make a 100,000 a week playing soccer in the Premier league.

I think that Anthony Pettis has said that he was in his youth considered not a particularly good athlete because he struggled with sports like football and soccer. And implied that he often got ripped on for being a Latino who couldn't play soccer. I think that interview may be out there, but it showed how someone who does not fit one arbitrary definition of a good athlete can sometimes find other sports where they have Michael Jordan level abilities for success.

And Schaub was sort of a scrub in the NFL but he has still done better in MMA than over half of that org's best players probably would have done if they had tried it.

Schaub wasn't a scrub in the NFL, he wasn't in the NFL. He was on a practice squad for part of one season. He never played a game.

Mitrione played all of 9 minutes in his career.

And that's after spending their whole lives trying to get there. Then both train a little, go to the 'premier MMA org' and carry winning records.

we'll never know.

how come the just misses aren't coming in to make that silva money?

NBA/NFL are the GOAT athletes. Mma is somewhere between darts and chess.

Also, Ronda being labeled as A-level is just silly.

Skylar Diggins, or Candace Parker would likely embarrass her in athleticism. If they get some training who knows.

This has been explained many times:

Is this still true now that Bern is off his PEDs?

Maybe time to put the brow

Your guy's obsession with big black dudes is a bit unnerving

Herschel Walker is enough proof that even geriatric A-level athletes are superior to spry D-level athletes

Prime Serena would break her in half.

There are some good athletes in MMA, but on the whole the talent level is far behind other sports. Alex G., Jones, Aldo, GSP, Anderson, are all very good athletes. But most MMA fighters are not elite athletes.

MMA has not been around as long, does not pay as well, and is not as popular as the other sports.
