Holloway vs Poirier; one of the worst selling PPVs of all time, why?

I would say it's likely because even though Dustin Poirier fights are must see for fight fans, he's got the personality of a wet nap so we doesn't draw in the casuals. At least at that point he didn't as it was prior to the 2nd & 3rd Conor fights.

just because someone is exciting doesn’t mean they’re popular.

just because someone is popular doesn’t mean they’re a draw.

Neither guy is a household name. Hardcores love them, casuals won't know who they are.

The main reason is probably because it was the first ESPN+ PPV.

Having Eryk Anders vs Khalil Roundtree and Dwight Grant vs Alan Jouban on the main card probably didn’t help much either.

Avengers Endgame was released the following weekend and people were too stoked for that shit to care about combat sports

Wasn't there two PPVs really close together in this case?

You had to be subscribed to ESPN+ to buy it and most fight fans were not. You also couldn't order the PPV from your television.

Cause believe it or not, but the fans occasionally do see through the UFC's attempts at blatant fake bullshit. Khabib was only suspended over the crowd brawl and perfectly capable of returning in a few more months, Poirier wasn't Tony, and Holloway wasn't a LW.

Poirier vs Holloway in no way deserved to be an interim title fight and so people didn't buy it.

Has there ever been another event with this many things stacked against it? This feels like an achievement.

Because despite Max fanboys’ belief, ya boi is not a PPV draw. He’s well liked in the MMA community but that’s about it.

Plus weren’t both main and co-main fights for Interim titles? Why would anyone care about that garbage lol

UFC 236 only sold 100k PPV buys, making it the worst male headlined PPV since 2005.

This was Max Holloway going for a second belt on 13 fight win streak after dominant showings in featherweight title defenses, and Dustin was on a fairly dominant streak himself putting on just bleed fights with Eddie and Justin.

Why didn’t anyone care about this fight? How was it one of the worst PPVs of all time? Why did no one buy it?

Maybe people thought Tony had the right to TS at the time.

Imagine being a grown ass man and caring so much about this that you post about to 10000 years later. Imagine. Who the fuck cares is the question. Why do you fucking care?
For the same reason you posted your retarded opinion, why do you fucking care to comment?

Interim title fight. Rematch. Low weight class. No undisputed champ and no big draw. That fight can co-headline UFC 300 for all I care, but as a sole attraction for 80$ it's not it.

Wikipedia UFC 153. That event had everything under the fucking Sun go wrong. Was supposed to be headlined by Jose Aldo defending the FW title in Brazil. That fight and about 1000 others were scrapped.

The card was saved by Anderson Silva stepping up to fight Stephan Bonnar at LHW on short notice, plus Big Nog stepped up to fight on short notice…it was a really fun card when all was said and done.

hahaha I remember the fights, but not the drama. Yeah, that was a shitshow all right.

I think the bigger question is why don't you still care?

Everybody heard UFC was Dying
Also not so diverse
The hot sauce is legit though

First of all it was an interim title.
This was also before Poirier established himself as a HOF level fighter. He was on a nice streak but Khabib, Conor and Tony were the 3 LWs people primarily cared about. Poirier kinda snuck into the title picture.
Max was more famous but I guess he was never such a big draw.

Imagine being on a forum where this type of shit is discussed and talking down to another human being for discussing it.

Imagine caring about how much a ppv and having an actual conversation about it. So you talk about NFL ratings? NBA? Imagine being that fucking weird.
