<23>why post in the thread just to say youre not playing the game? The fuck?
I’m playing it, just not on launch. Could change by how into all these releases I get but for now, I’m ok rolling around to it in a few months. I’m also looking to see how reception is.

What's the read on this? Is it 'one with the gamers' kind of thing (good) or rather not wanting reviewers to blunt hype by broadcasting 'same game, new coat of paint'?

I think in this case, they're being genuine in wanting to reward the backers. There is always a chance that it's not a very good game, that perhaps has been toiling away in development hell, and they're just shitting out what they got and don't want initial sales ruined by bad reviews, but I highly doubt it with these guys. This is their baby.

In general, I really never got the big deal of letting games speak for themselves. I don't think it's necessarily a sign of deception if they don't want critics reviewing it before it releases. Especially today with how corrupt the whole process is, with a whole bunch of critics basically being hired agents for the studios.

They are the definition of a independent game studio. Comprised of three developers that are self funded off their previous game sales with no publisher. Operating in the entertainment industry where marketing costs match production costs. In their case marketing costs would exceed production costs.

This isnt a company licensing a Limp Bizkit or Metallica song for their trailer.

For both of you are relatively new gamers who have primarily resided within the console war bubble. Where exclusivity within the console market resulted in console maker funding.

Beginning in the mid to late 2000's the big video game companies began regularly restricting review copy access based off said publications previous reviews. Even going so far as dictating who the publication could employ. Actions like this is why a game company was voted the 'Worst Company in America' in 2012 and 2013.

Process has always been corrupt. Just your epiphany moment came much later. For me it came in 2004/2005 pertaining to Dale Earnhardt Jr and EA.

Isnt this exactly what hollow knight fans want though? I know I do.

Same want for me. Great game. Was curious over thinking on Team Cherry side of house with public statement motive being transparent (good faith) or ulterior.

You guys see the reports that this game is going to be 19.99? Fuck I might just pick it up if true even if I can’t get to it right away. That’s a steal for the amount of content that there will be.

Saw that too just this morning and agree if the case. FTW pricing.

That's freaking awesome. Wasn't the first game the same price?

This is going to sell like mad. With only 3 main developers, and some contractors (composer too) the bank will still be astronomical.

They could have easily sold it at $40 and probably make out better.

I'll be curious to see the player count next weekend!

It was 14.99 at release but considering the way the economy is I thought the new one would be 29.99. This and Expedition 33 have built tremendous good will. I hope other devs take note. Maybe this can help studios make more money by being cheap enough to sell many more copies.

It's also coming to Game Pass on Day 1. This is close to the "artist" spirit you can get in the videogame industry. They're practically giving it away.

Cool, I assumed a larger price increase too. I love ambitious blockbusters like BG3, Cyberpunk, GTA VI etc... However, like in hollywood, too many studios are spending/charging too much on IP's without a soul, not to mention with terrible optimizations. I don't see how the Triple A market is sustainable.

Expedition 33 is a great example of what can be accomplished with a smaller team/reasonable budget, and a vision/passion from a director/creatives. Their price point was excellent too.

Everything I hear/see coming from the devs tells me it's a passion project that they want in the hands of as many players as possible. I was a late bloomer for Hollow Knight, so the wait hasn't been as long for me. I'm anticipating a banger.

Already over 100,000 playing on Steam despite issues with the server having delayed people downloading it.

Currently unable to download on PS store and similar issues on Xbox store from what i'm reading. Possible mix up with release time zones?

They should have allowed preorders and preloads. That's the whole point of doing it so people don't run into these sort of issues.

Actually going to be traveling this weekend so I’m going to pick it up for my Switch 2.

Game apparently broke Steam. Very interested in seeing sales for this in near future.

I'm definitely jumping in but conflicted whether to play this or Hell is Us first.

Props to the devs for a $20 price got a game that could have gotten double that. They're leaving millions on the table.

Yea I'm trying to decide what to do next as well. Shinobi plat seems beyond what I'm willing to do but we will see. I've already beat it just working on getting 100% on all the levels. I'm leaning towards Hell is Us.
