Since the platinum is a nightmare for me (I hate timed playthroughs) I'm going to wait until early 2026 and get the physical edition for my Switch 2. No announcements on other consoles yet though

this doesnt sound like the game for you, millions of others to play
LOL, wut? I don't have to like everything about it's formula, dude. Loved the original. Still had issues with it, including that map shit. Don't be one of those "What, you don't think it's absolutely perfect in every single way? Then don't play it" people.

I'll tell you right now though, that map shit is nothing compared to those bounce pads. That shit is plain infuriating. That early stage with the rosebuds is going to be notorious for irritating the shit out of players.

I never played Hollow Knight. Is it really that good such that Silksong is the most anticipated game of the year?
It is very good, and garnered a large following, but the anticipation has a lot to do with how many times it's been delayed. People have been waiting on this for quite awhile. It was originally supposed to come out on the Switch like five years ago or some shit, LOL.

all you seem to have done is complain about the game

Same, there's so much hype floating around you'd think the Half Life sequel just came out.

Those who are playing it, is it worthy of the hype?

6 hours in, the game is massively unbalanced and disappointing. Shit mobs and environmental hazards kill you more than the bosses do. You can't casually play this like HK. Its arduous the entire time. After repeating the same area over and over with no reward, I said fuck it.

Overhyped. It was hyped based on the first game, which it betrays in every way.

about 10 hours in now and absolutely loving this, it just gets better and better, my only complaint is the diagonal jump at the start, i havent found any of the boss fights THAT hard, some of them are very very tough, but i seem to remember much worse from HK...but i have a lot of game to play still. Some of these boss fights have been really enjoyable

i really enjoy the silk think you drop when you die, iirc when you die in HK you had to build all of your stuff back up by grinding, this eliminates that and even goes one further, if you die during a boss fight and can gain enough silk along the way, you essentially have 2 full silks if you play your cards right, great QoL improvement on the game

i have to tip my hat off to the birds in greymoor, infact a lot of the enemies there, they can go suck a dick, the mini boss fight there took me a moon to finish, but oh the satisfaction once you beat something like that

A bit happier now that I've got the Wanderer's Crest but some of these enemies, especially when grouped together are pure asshole.

so, i thought i was about 10 hours in, apparently i am 19 hours in

I think I'm over the hump(early cryptic/bullshit game is gonna retire so many players), and I'm good to go now. The mob battles(so far) haven't really stumped me, but I'm noticing a bit of a reliance on them. I think they might've taken some notes from "Guacamelee" in that regard. I would've rather they just made more simple bosses than just having these mob rooms, but it's not a huge deal.

I'm starting to feel the flow of the game, as the beads are now finally starting to add up on a run, rather than needing to grind them out in the early game. I've heard some complaints about the boss fights going on a bit too long, and if that "Lava" boss guy is any indication, I'm gonna have to agree. That guy wasn't even hard, but it just goes on and on and on, to the point where you've perfected it, but are just wondering when the hell the final strike is gonna occur.

Outside of that, though, once you finally break through from those first four or so zones and gain some key powerups to let you explore a bit, it all comes together, and you can actually start to chart a few paths, and let the "metroidvania" addiction take over.

Im at a boss that highlights everything wrong with this game. Boss is simple enough but adds unhittable minions that do double damage. Fuck Team Cherry.

It very much feels like Hollow Knight I loved and just like before playing without dashing is just a tad too slow, hope it unlocks soon. Just unlocked fast travel.

This game seems to be getting praised though. I’ve never seen anyone say they love Dark Souls 2. Still going to wait on it though. Want to get the physical edition on Switch 2. Normally I get third party games on PlayStation but fuck that 30 hour 100 percent completion trophy.

Everything is incredibly expensive, had to farm to afford map and fast travel unlocks. Quess forgelady has to wait.

i feel like people havent ever played a modern metrovania in their lives

Okay, I think I'm officially on the "Game needs tweaking" bandwagon. After a certain point, it just gets tedious. Once damn near every basic enemy takes at least six hits to go down, while also having some of the most annoying tactics to deal with, it stops being a "challenge" and more a war of attrition that just stops being fun after a bit. It doesn't feel like your own progress is scaling with the enemies'. Benches become few and far between. Runbacks become ridiculous. Getting anywhere becomes a chore.

It's a very cruel game, and if that's what they set out to make, they nailed it. I would only argue that unlike the original, it's difficulty feels unnatural, like you're playing on some special setting for masochists, where enemies are beefed up and do double damage, and you're stuck with your starting gear and gradually get less powerful as the game goes on. Considering how perfect the difficulty scaling was in the first game, it's strange at how they missed the mark here.
