Highway robbery

It was an exciting round but he got his head dribbled like a basketball for 2 minutes and also looked closed to finished from exhaustion alone. That running kick was a thing of beauty but Aldo still lost round 3 for me.
Aldo was doing everything short of pulling a Roberto Duran and telling the ref he was quitting at the end. It would've been a crime against humanity giving him the decision after that, and anybody crying robbery is simply blinded by emotional fanboyism. Hey, I've been there, I know how impossible it is to be objective sometimes.

Even Aldo himself knew he was done. That says it all right there. Not a single word of protest from him about it.

You don't fall to your back completely gassed and get smashed with elbows for the last 2.5 minutes of a round and win it. Scoring round 3 for Aldo is insane despite the knockdowns.

Aldo won round 1 and arguably round 2. Round 2 is the only one up for debate.

If for fun we go by Pride rules, Aldo even more clearly lost.

R1 Aldo, R3 Zahabi because Aldo gassed and ate a ton of elbows to the head with no way out

R2 is the swing round, I saw it for Aldo but it could go either way

Aldo had his window to close the show, but couldn't capitalize. Then he gasses out and is getting obliterated on the ground in the final moments. Great career, glad he's calling it.

a shame to retire on such a robbery but yeah, the ufc dont care for most legends.... only a few rare guys get the respect they deserved (and some get a little too much respect).

Man if Aldo just ran for the 2nd half of round 3 instead of collapsing and letting Zahabi cut him open with elbows he would have won pretty clearly. But that was a crazy crash out after he almost got the finish and it obviously swayed the judges. Rnd 2 was super close, Rnd 1 was all Aldo. Everything rests on if you count the knockdown (or was it 2?) over the gnp

If those knockdowns were so brutalizing, Zahabi wouldn't have been able to do what he did for the last half of round 3, and all 3 judges felt the same way. I wouldn't be losing any sleep if the decision went the other way either.
What did he do? NOT almost finish aldo? Aldo was never about to go out and he was never rocked. He was fully aware at all points. Bad decision

It was 3 knockdowns

"Legnds", in quotes? Surely you are not now trying to deny he is a legend?

If you want to criticize the weight miss, that is fine...don't be a disrespectful clown of a fan who colours the career of a legend with embarrassing shit talk like that. That is white belt n00b shit.

I put legends in quotes because legends don't need to do the dodgy shit Aldo did for this fight.

But he did it anyway.

And it wasn't just some regular weight miss. No one is that far off leading into the weigh ins and doesn't know full well that they have no chance of making it. Not telling your opponent and having them weigh in at a lower weight while you weigh in at a higher one is rat behavior.

I've been a fan of Aldo since the WEC days, but everything he done before doesn't mean he gets a pass for this shit.

It was a rat's way for him to go out.

The Rat of Rio.

People didn't consider Zahabis punches were weak as fuck standing

ufc doesn't let ppl retire offa wins if they can help it. That would give them more stock power if they decide to unretire into the GFL/PFL/One/sharkfights etc, so UFC does all they can to send ppl off on a loss.

Sorry aldo knocked Zahabi down twice round 3. I cannot imagine giving it to Zahabi

This isn't boxing. The KDs are irrelevant.

Zahabi landed more big shots and was on the offense longer.

There's an argument for both guys BUT I think Zahabi rightfully nicked it.

is damage irrelevant?
last time i checked there's nothing more damaging in the ring that being put on your ass.

or is damage in mma a different concept, like in prowrestling where a self inflicted cut is perceived worse than being spiked on your neck?

cuts > ko ???

Man, Aldo has been on the receiving end of some shit decisions.

You can get put on your ass from soft shots while off balance though lol. That doesn't score higher than sustained damage that's opening cuts for example.

Irrelevant? I know we don't have standing 8's in MMA but they are hardly irrelevant
Are you a judge by any chance ? Sounds like it LOL.

Zahabi won imo and he almost finished Aldo, just ran out of time.

No need to cry for Aldo, had he won those 2 close fights nothing would have changed to be honest. Scraping by by cans (in comparison to who he beat when he was in his prime) wasn't going to do him any favors either. Him barely squeeking decisions over them or losing to the does the same thing to me when I view his overall legacy.

One of the most embarrassing takes I've read in ages on Sherdog.

I've long maintained that MMA has some of the worst 'fans' across all of pro sports...thanks for so clearly illustrating my point.
