I would be happy to see this as the new standard but the reality is its not, Dean let Mir turtle vs Nog.

did you read the first post? there are many he has the most early stoppages in the sport, maybe he's a good ref for normal fights but for title fights he should be banned due to his tendency to stop fights early.

Fights should be allowed to continue longer on title fights, let herb ref unimportant fights where the first guy to get hurt loses

TS, keep in mind Herb Dean was the ref for JDS vs Carwin. He caught a lot of flack for that massacre, and JDS did the same looking-up-at-the-ref routine. I'm sure his subsequent fights were influenced by that. Granted, that was HW, and fighters probably statistically suffer more damage, than say Barao hitting Faber's hand, but refereeing can't be as easy as we would like to think. There is no official review, no second opinion, nothing. Once he calls it, the fight stops. Both people were to blame, Herb and Faber, but the person who did everything right was Barao. We shouldn't be so drastic with our judgments because at some point it almost begins to discredit him.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dean actually say that he thought Hendo hit the back of the head vs Fedor but that he let it go because it wasn't intentional?

When a ref clearly has no idea of the basic rules of the sport(or choses to overlook them) that's always a danger sign.

Herb loves to stop fights early and barely protects fighters. He ends fights by casually waving the fight off most of the time. People like him because they listen to Uncle Dana.

Yeah, and he warned Nog about strikes to the back of the head even though Mir was planted face down, which prompted him to go for the sub. Far worse call than tonight's imo

Faber dropped, was in pure survival mode and thought that a thumbs up equalled a defensive position, it was a fair call, shit way to end but still a fair call

Herb gets called "the best ref in the business" but I highly question that. He stops fights for simply "not defending" or "defending too much". He doesn't take into account the effectiveness of the strikes. Or if a fighter is just defending in a tough spot to get out of --- but is absolutely fine.

The rules don't say anything about consciousness being a factor in a stoppage. It's intelligently defending yourself, and Faber wasn't.

Herb is just the worse ref for title fights because he stops fights too early, for title fights to be stopped people should be out cold or nearly out. There should be no doubt who won, if a fighter gets up and complains its a bad stoppage.

Only in title fights because there needs to be no doubt of the winner, he's fine in regular fights

Herb always gets involved too early. He also separates fighters and stands them up too often. That pisses me off just as much. Don't screw a guy over when he's working just because he is a wrestler. Herb has been deciding the outcome of fights, and that is not right.

Eh, maybe a little early but Faber wasn't intelligently defending. Herb Dean is a horrible ref, though, this is a given fact.
