Turtling after getting dropped = checking out in MMA.
I would be happy to see this as the new standard but the reality is its not, Dean let Mir turtle vs Nog.

Please. He made one questionable call in like 10 years.
Anyone remember silva vs velazquez 2 also? I'd rather have kim winslow in there
Herb Dean is the guy with most easly stoppages in the industry, remember , kimbo vs nelson ,amagov vs berry, tito vs ken, lawler vs kos just of the top of my head
Fights should be allowed to continue longer on title fights, let herb ref unimportant fights where the first guy to get hurt loses

not my point, fact is title fights should always have a clear winner.
if herb reffed the lesnar vs carwin fight we would have had a new champ.
its like he's too anxious and cant wait to stop the fight, his job should be to determine wheter or not a guy is unconscious or about to go unconscious

It was a good call, Faber was doing fuck all.
The rules don't say anything about consciousness being a factor in a stoppage. It's intelligently defending yourself, and Faber wasn't.

TS, keep in mind Herb Dean was the ref for JDS vs Carwin. He caught a lot of flack for that massacre, and JDS did the same looking-up-at-the-ref routine. I'm sure his subsequent fights were influenced by that. Granted, that was HW, and fighters probably statistically suffer more damage, than say Barao hitting Faber's hand, but refereeing can't be as easy as we would like to think. There is no official review, no second opinion, nothing. Once he calls it, the fight stops. Both people were to blame, Herb and Faber, but the person who did everything right was Barao. We shouldn't be so drastic with our judgments because at some point it almost begins to discredit him.
How is he not intelligently defending himself when he blocks 8 punches straight?![]()
