Herb Dean should be banned from title fights

Yeah he makes a lot of early stoppages but he's pretty good. It was a hard call but I think he should have let that one go. Probably after barao realized he wasn't going to get the finish with those hammer fists Faber would either have eventually got to his feet to get tee'd off on some more or survived the round; or barao would have taken the back and either finished it there or end the round on his back. I feel robbed of a full fight

How is he not intelligently defending himself when he blocks 8 punches straight?

No, because he's just turtling and holding his hand up, he's not advancing his position or even moving.

He made the wrong call, but I think that's forgiveable because Faber did just take some huge shots and although he was covering, he wasn't doing anything to get out of that position. I think the worst thing about the decision is that it looks like he is influenced to stop the fight by Barao's plea. Maybe he wasn't, but it looked like it.

Turtling and blocking punches waiting for barao to tire out or transition to the back so Faber could stand up was the most intelligent way to defend. Where was he supposed to move? You would have pulled guard?

faber was turtling and it was really a bad spot, faber wasnt defending intelligently so it is a valid stoppage. i think it's also the 2nd time he got knocked down and hurt bad in the round

Come on, TS. I love Faber and wanted him to win more than anything, but he was clearly rocked before he went down, and was getting pounded one without intelligently defending himself. Does the guy have to be knocked unconscious and carried out on a stretcher for it to be a definitive win now?

So he's allowed to just lay there hoping Barao gets tired sometime within the next few minutes?

If this was the first time little Herbie had made a bad stoppage you maybe could cut him some slack. But how many does this make now? I have lost count over the years. Herbie should be fired.

I'm guessing you're a butthurt Fedor fan

I mean if the punches aren't really that damaging I don't consider it a true 'finish'. You really think if the fight had continued Faber would have not been able to defend himself? He was holding the leg to buy time and recover. Holding the leg and getting hit was probably helping Faber recover more than the hammer fists were damaging him.

The way I see it, he was on his way to recovery much more than on his way to unconsciousness or helplessness

It's like saying someone is not allowed to lay in guard hold on to the head and eat small hammerfists while they recover or find an oppurtunity to escape. You know what I mean?

We were robbed of a proper finish, like a rnc or some big skull pounding shots on the ground, or even a miraculous comeback
its a damn main event ppv title fight, let us see the entire thing, not just stop it before we get to the good part.

Im sure Faber would also have rather get the benefit of the doubt even if it meant he ended up going unconscious, its his last title shot after all

Herb dean is a legit ref... he did what he thought was best... preventing further damage to faber who was doing nothing other than sticking his hidden thumb up in the air.

If they weren't damaging, Faber should have done something. Literally anything other than laying flat with his hand up would have had the fight continue.

so since they weren't damaging why the need to improve the position quickly? Let Barao waste some energy, get a bit of sense back and wait for a better opening. Horrendous stoppage, the worst one in a title fight in a long time.

It was a good call stop spittin hate because Faber lost. Dude gets dropped 2 or 3 times, lays flat on his belly while eating hammer fists and it's somehow the ref's fault? Only on Sherdog...

Start caring more about the fighter's health and less about your blood thirst to have a finish imo.

Exactly my point lol, a proper finish?

Browne vs Overeem ring a bell? Maybe Brawk vs Carwin? Sometimes you have to give the professional fighter a chance. Shit stoppage no matter who you were rooting for.

New rule: Fighters have to yell "Ow!" relative to how hard punches hurt.

/ Problem solved.

The notion that title fights should be reffed differently than non-title fights does not make much sense.

Thumbs up is ok when you're getting choked not when you're in the turtle position getting punched. Herb did a good job

if herb reffed the lesnar vs carwin fight we would have had a new champ.
its like he's too anxious and cant wait to stop the fight, his job should be to determine wheter or not a guy is unconscious or about to go unconscious

After the shit he's seen I don't blame him.

Love Faber, hate bad stoppages, but this wasn't one.
