An elderly couple and their dog were allegedly decapitated by their own son, who cops say fled the scene of his California mobile home park covered in blood.
Officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Department said they responded to a call at around 7.30am on Tuesday to reports of a 'domestic incident.'
When they arrived on the scene of the San Juan Mobile Estates community in San Juan Capistrano, investigators said they came upon a 'horrific scene which included the decapitated and mutilated bodies' of an elderly man and woman 'as well as a decapitated dog belonging to the married couple.'
Neighbours have described the family as friendly and quiet.
Police have since identified the victims as Antoinette Gerdvil, 79, and her husband Ronald Gerdvil, 77.
It is believed they were killed by their 41-year-old son, Joseph Gerdvil, who lived with his parents in the mobile home and was allegedly found covered in blood nearby.
Deputies explained that just minutes after they stumbled upon the gruesome scene, they received reports of a 'bloody male' chasing down a maintenance worker in the same mobile home community.
Police now allege Joseph stole the maintenance worker's golf cart, before an unidentified deputy located him near a bike trail and shot him multiple times.
He was treated on the scene until the Orange County Fire Authority arrived and transported him to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
When he is medically cleared, the sheriff's office says the 41-year-old will be booked on two counts of homicide - and will likely face additional charges and enhancements.
A motive for the brutal decapitations remains unclear, and authorities gave no explanation for what prompted the deputy to shoot Joseph.
But neighbour David Desmond said he saw Joseph fighting with his father the day before.
He described to Fox 11 how the younger Gerdvil was 'in his face' and 'looked angry' while confronting his father on Monday.
Another neighbour, Bob Demario, also claimed Joseph 'had a drug issue.'
'That's why he lived there and they kept him there,' Demario claimed.
Online, Joseph made a number of unhinged posts about Jehovah's Witnesses and posted dissonance music on YouTube - including one on Monday entitled Shots Fired and another named Pope on a Rope, with a picture of the pope being hanged.

The mother of an autistic Good Samaritan who was shot dead trying to stop a domestic abuser beating his girlfriend is furious he was on bail at the time.

He got out of his car and walked over to Johnson Kenny Sirleaf, 34, to get him to back off, and just as he was walking away, he was shot in the chest.
Witnesses told police they heard a gunshot and then a man fall to the ground and an SUV quickly driving away form the scene.
Sirleaf was finally jailed for life without the possibility of parole on June 13.
The victim's mother Kim Adams wrote on Facebook after her son's death about coming face to face with his killer in court.
'My son is a hero... He got out of his truck, left it open and went to help that woman. He did not know them and had never seen them before,' she wrote.
'My son is the most loving person I've ever met, although he has driven me crazy through the years pretty hard.
'I got to lock eyes with [Sirleaf], the shooter looked at me, I looked back at him. I stared at him the whole entire time, he became very nervous, agitated and shout it out a couple times in the courtroom.
'[He has] a long criminal history and actually should not have been on the streets at all.'
Sirleaf had six felony convictions when he shot Adams, and was indicted on two more, but was free on bail.

Theydid the same things as the people in this staged video. They pepper sprayed him, tazed him, one officer tried to take him down. All that failed and the man charged an officer with a gun pointed at him. No other outcome was possible, the guy made up his mind to die that day, along with the retard screaming murder at the cops, escalating the whole thing.

(1) I don't want to get too hung up on the ethnicity thing but the brother confirms Clifford is mixed race, and having now had time to look at other photos, I think most people would class the dead girls as White, but I still don't believe they were purely ethnic English. I narrowed it to English, as Scottish, Welsh and Irish have minorities of slightly darker people. There are a lot of Irish people involved in horseracing so maybe they rolled two sixes twice on the genetic dice there (I haven't seen a pic of the third girl). A local resident who grew up with the Hunt family and played with Louise and Hannah when they were children described the family as 'super-nice and friendly'.

Within hours a national manhunt was under way for former soldier Kyle Clifford, who was named by police in a highly unusual step. The 26-year-old had previously served in the Queen's Dragoon Guards for a short time, before dropping out [in 2022], having failed to impress superiors, it was said last night.
Yesterday neighbours revealed that Clifford had been in a relationship with the Hunts' youngest daughter, Louise, but she split up with him a week ago.
Their parting is said to have left her so shaken that she recently crashed her car into a telegraph pole outside the family home.

After attending the scene the police began a large, armed manhunt, including police dogs and only allowing people to leave Tube stations slowly while they looked at them carefully, so they could potentially spot Clifford.
Later local schools were put into lockdown when armed police raided the suspect's home in Enfield, North London, some 14 miles from the crime scene.
One mother said: "They had cordoned off the road and were ushering people away from the house they were going into. They had the full protective gear on, guns, shields and helmets – the kind you'd expect to see in riots."
Dozens of officers from [New] Scotland Yard and Hertfordshire Police flooded the area a short time later after finding Clifford's abandoned car. But within hours the hunt had moved to a nearby cemetery just a few minutes' walk away. The former security guard was later found with self-inflicted injuries at Lavender Hill Cemetery just after 4.30pm, after seemingly shooting himself with the crossbow.

Around 20 minutes later Clifford was stretchered from the scene and taken by ambulance to Royal London Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment last night.
Police confirmed no shots had been fired by officers and nobody else was being sought.

Currently there is no requirement to have a licence for a crossbow, but it is illegal to carry one in public without a reasonable excuse.
You can get collapsible bows as well, up to at least 60lbs draw weight, which although less than a war bow, is apparently enough to kill someone fairly easily. Especially when they're not wearing armour. A big uncollapsible bow would tend to attract attention in 2024, unless you broke it into smaller pieces. A crossbow takes less strength and skill though. There's a competitive archer somewhere on this forum who would know about this.

Born in Enfield in 1998, Clifford is understood to be the third of four children.
Clifford is confirmed to have grown up in Enfield, with a woman who grew up with the suspected killer in the area saying he had 'always seemed pretty normal'. Speaking to Sky News, the woman added that he had also seemed a 'nice guy', and that he didn't come across as aggressive.
She said: "We would always be at the same parties together and hanging around in Enfield. He never seemed odd or aggressive."
A former boss from early in his career said the murder suspect dropped out soon after passing out.
He added: "Clifford joined the Army in 2019 and I was with him in Basic Training. When he joined the Army he was immature for his age and had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He struggled to grasp basic military concepts but managed to reach the standard to pass out from training. After passing out he joined the Household Cavalry Regiment but I'm unsure how his career developed from there. I hear he was working in private security so that would indicate that he is no longer in the military."
After the army he briefly worked at a fire and security installation company, but left in July last year.
Clifford's parents have been referred to as 'lovely' by a neighbour. The retired teacher spoke to the Mirror after posting a letter to the family. She said: "This is so tragic because his parents are lovely, genuine people. Kyle’s father often cuts my grass and checks I’m ok - they are good people and don’t deserve this. Some locals have been abusive towards them since the incident which is devastating."
The three women had ligature marks around their wrists and face but were not gagged and bound when they were discovered by police at their home in Bushey, The Guardian reported.
The newspaper reported that one of the victims managed to call 999 to alert the police before their killer fled, with a source alleging that the women may have been held hostage for hours prior to the call.

The girls seem to have probably had work done on their teeth and lips, dyed their hair black and given themselves heavy artificial tans. After killing Carol, the defendant then 'lay in wait' for an hour for Louise to enter the house, before restraining, raping and ultimately murdering her with a crossbow.
He then fatally shot 28-year-old Hannah Hunt when she returned to the property in the quiet cul-de-sac of Ashlyn Close in Bushey, Hertfordshire, after work.
Clifford previously admitted three counts of murder, one of false imprisonment against Louise, and two counts of possession of offensive weapons - the crossbow and the knife.
Prosecutors said the 'violent misogyny promoted' by controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate 'fuelled' Clifford's attacks.

Following the attacks Clifford, who served in the military from 2019 for around three years, became the subject of a manhunt for a number of hours, before he was found injured in Lavender Hill Cemetery in Enfield, north London.
He had shot himself in the chest with the crossbow he had used to kill Louise and Hannah, which left him paralysed from the chest downwards.
Clifford will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday.
