Pretty damn tragic. This is someone who made a career out of helping people who were less fortunate and mentally ill. I feel bad for their family.

Even if this ended tragicly, it's still her job and not some untrained cop and let's be honest with only 3-4 months training all cops in the USA are unqualified to deal with these kind of patients, because that is what they are patients, not suspects.

That could be said for a lot of people in a lot of industries. I know a lot of people who started out eager and now are jaded by what they've endured or seen. It's not some exclusive thing to social workers.

We only hear about a fraction of police harassement and brutality cases. Black people have been telling for a long time that the police routiney harass / pick on them. Only more recently , with the wide use of smartphones, do we get to see some of it.

Anyone who thinks a social worker should be dealing with any situation where someone might be breaking the law is a fucking retard and should be disconnected from the internet. Law and order are police matter. It doesn't matter if the situation doesn't seem violent. We have countless and countless and countless and countless examples of "peaceful" situations that turned violent in a second. In most of those situations nobody died because cops answered the calls and were able to neutralize the attacker. Social workers would have been killed/injured. Wanting social workers dealing with this situation is the same as wanting innocent people to get hurt.

I never said that this was because of the social worker going to a call. I simply pointed out that this was literally the meme of a social worker being stabbed.

You filled in the gaps with it being for a call. I never said that nor thought it.

There are a few posters here who assumed she was sent there in place of a policeman because of the defund the police movement.

You were clearly referring to the criticism from the right which was in response to calls of defunding the police and replacing them with social workers. But this case isn't about a social worker who took the place of a cop because liberals followed through on defunding the police and replacing them with social workers.
 
Mods you can merge with the crime thread or whatever, I didn't see anyone talking about it but I could have missed it. This kid and some siblings went out shopping and someone opened fire on them in their car afterwards. The 18 year old died, two of his siblings were hit but will survive it looks like.

Mostly I made this thread to vent, but this one really hit me hard when it popped across my news feed. Maybe because I'm a parent and because of his last words to his mother, IDK. But it makes me sick, what the hell is wrong with people that they need to do shit like this?

Merge the thread, watch it devolve into a debate on gun laws, whatever. I just needed to type this out to say this isn't okay. Parents shouldn't have to get calls like this from their kids, and people should be able to go fucking shopping and not be gunned down in their car after. I hope they catch who did this and they go away forever.
