Shooting was indeed gang related. Funeral was for a gang member killed in a drive by, that drive by was a retaliation for a shooting this guy was a suspect for.

Police even preemptively had two squad cars stationed at the funeral home to try and deter a strike, and had a tactical team deployed nearby to respond. But the suddeness and speed of a drive by makes them popular with gang activity for a reason, so police were not able to stop it even with being prepared.
