Curious to what safety protocols social workers like these utilize. Do they wear vests underneath? Pepper spray?

But "defund the police" advocates have already decided that it shouldn't be left to police.

I'm not even convinced police are always the best choice, but DTP are basically advocating that the occasional tragedies happen to social workers instead of the mental patient.

I don't agree with defunding the police, so I'm not trying to argue with you there. I think an ideal approach is a balance between police and mental health services.

That really sucks. She's trying to help a troubled person and this is what she gets for her good deeds. I hope her family gets a nice fat settlement from the city.

Co-response is the better route to go with mental health calls. One cop there on the scene just in case. Maybe after a year or two of experiences to learn from departments can get a good handle on which calls are fine to send a social worker solo to.

"If I dont have to think past defund the police then the whole world is sunshine and rainbows"
Go wipe that egg off your face. You didn't read the article and apparently do not understand that this is what social workers do. They do social visits.

Instead of coming to terms with that reality the left want to go all in on solving crime with hugs and well wishes.
Nobody says that, that's a very big strawman. Unsurprising coming from what is most likely the dumbest person I've ever talked to on here.

Yes, but it doesn't help to go in with the attitude that everyone who's having a mental health episode is an alligator.
Only some are alligators. How many social workers do you want to see dragged down into the river like a deer?

Not sure if the family could get a settlement since she wasn't on a call or sent out there

Goddamnit. I fell for headlines

This was just the type of social work checkups that happens all over the country and has been happening for decades. It wasn’t a 911 call where a social worker was sent instead of a cop at all

fuck you TS. I grabbed the bait

Cops get stabbed as well responding to calls. Guess that’s not a good idea either?

This is what happens when you go to “lawofficer.com” to read a story about a social worker doing social work. The TS did not understand his article either, and the title of this thread has already had to be changed.

The laughing and “told ya so” posts in this thread are just sociopaths laughing at the murder of a social worker who’s worked in that building for 8 years and was loved and respected by the people who lived in the building.

Pretty fucked up story. Social workers being stabbed by psychos seemed like a meme when we talked about defunding the police

Oh, I see. I guess not everyone reads the small print.

Reading the headline of the website, made it seem as though a police officer would be been more appropriate for this situation.
That's on purpose, its a pro-cop website so they used a misleading title to get you to think that knowing many people like @ElKarlo would share the article after only reading the headline.
Dont be dense. It isnt much of a stretch to go from visiting her normal clients to answering a call about an active psychotic episode.
Oh the irony.

I blame the fact that I'm only half a coffee in so far today. Normally my skepticism meter is high enough I would have been the one calling TS out immediately

At least your post was empathetic and framed around the victim of the story, instead of some posters ITT spiking the football over the still warm corpse of a social worker

Better to send in the police to shoot the social worker.

For reference both Kinsey (the caretaker who was shot) and the patient were unarmed. But the officer who shot Kinsey was found guilty of a misdemeanor and made to write a 2500 word essay, so it all worked out in the end.
