Like, can you think of any super match that ended up not happening due to mutual respect between both players, who didn't want to fight the other one?

I would not count Khabib and Islam at all ofc because they're pretty much brothers, and by their code and strong community tie, they'd never fight against the other and I don't even like to speculate how it'd have been a match up (nothing against doing it ofc) because to me it's like speculating how two brothers who help each other and are equally talented would unfold.

But can you think of a match up that ended up not happening because of too much respect between the fighters?

Same gym.
I dont think CB ever fought other CB well except in the gym, for free.
yeah but that was still a superfight everyone wanted to see.

anyway legend has it they fought over a pitbull pupper in the gym, and according to wand. he won the pup via knock out.

Rogan and Snipes. Snipes once learning of little Joe’s resume discovered a new found respect for his potential foe 😂

Anderson Silva claimed he didn't want to fight Lyoto Machida due to being training partners and friends. That's a bigger fight than any of these being mentioned I think (Islam vs Khabib was never a thing, Islam wasn't ranked high when Khabib was champion).

Frank Shamrock never wanted to fight Ken Shamrock even though he'd beat his ass.

EDIT: Shogun vs Silva for sure.

i see your edit to include the post i mentioned earlier.

i do think shogun vs wand trumps anderson vs machida since they were both competing int the same class from the get go. and neither made another feel that they needed to jump up a class to let the other survive.

so.. umm.. yeah, thanks for the edit to recognize my post.

but i mean same thing could be said about every heavyweight champ there was before jones moved up to face GANE!
Brave wrestler waits until man with no takedown defense has the heavyweight belt.

Wow, what a move.

I'd agree with that.

Yeah Islam vs Khabib like I said wouldn't be one I'd count ofc because it would never happen and would feel just off if it did (which would never happen), more like an example of situations where the fighters weren't quite as close as Khabib and Islam but shared a level of respect that didn't get them to fight
