Honestly I can see Colby growing deeper into his character/gimmick.

It's not like he can pull a 180 and people will magically except him. He's better sticking to his guns and having people cheer for him to lose.

Colby almost got cut by the UFC after going like 6-1. His skills alone weren't good enough to keep him in the UFC which is why he adopted this gimmick persona. That came right from Colby's mouth. He was doing the independent wrestling thing and decided to bring a gimmick into his MMA career to spice things up.

Colby is a fantastic MMA fighter but the truth is he was dominant wrestler that's not that interesting to watch if you're not an mma enthusiast. It wasn't until his more recent fights that he let his hands go.

But without the gimmick Colby might have turned into a WW version of Josh Rosholt who went 6-2 in the UFC at HW and got a pink slip because he just wasn't entertaining or captivating. Good for Colby for adjusting and saving his career.
